  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The article states:

“The word ‘enemies’ used here by Bishop Fellay is of course a religious concept and refers to any group or religious sect which opposes the mission of the Catholic Church and her efforts to fulfill it: the salvation of souls."

Is there any reason he singled out groups as opposed to just saying that? He wasn't making some statement about all those outside the Church, he pointed to groups and said they were enemies. Sure, people can backpedal and try to claim it means something else, but the words are clear.

there are parishes in communion with the Pope that offer Latin Mass, does she still live in Pittsburgh? If so the link I provided can help her find a parish that offers Latin Mass in Pittsburgh

She passed on in 1999. I don't know if there were any around at that time? She wasn't big on Novus Ordo. One time my dad performed in Godspell at his school, and she was mortified. xD

The Pope only speaks ex Cathredra when speaking on faith and morals in line with Church teaching.

But do you think 95% of the church including almost all bishops and at least 5 popes could teach heresy for 60+ years? Doesn't that go against the "gates of hell will not overcome you" statement of Jesus? And I thought popes couldn't actively teach heresy. Even if they're not invoking infallibility, are they not using their teaching authority to promogulate heresy (supposedly)?

So what your telling me is that Pope Francis views on being less "obsessive" about abortion and contraception isn't heretical, to the point even Obama, the young Turks, and Fox news are now favoring him?

Does Catholicism only demand obedience to infallible statements, or does it expect obedience to one's bishop and the pope on more general matters?

Judaism has a goal that is contradictory to the goal of the Catholic Church

the Catholic Church is encouraging people to trust in Jesus Christ, who is God and Man, to recognize Him as the Messiah

modern Judaism does not encourage belief in Jesus as true God and true man

is it not acceptable to refer to a group with contradictory goals as being an "enemy"?

In the case if the Jews we forfeited the right to use language like that though centuries of injustice culminating in the holocaust.

He singled out Jewish people because he thinks Vatican II was a Jewish conspiracy. :o

Modern Judaism isn't really frustrating the Church's goals to any significant degree. I wouldn't go around calling Jews the enemy, when there are bigger fish to fry like rabid secularism, against which Jews can be our allies. The Church is not above prudently working with those outside the faith to face common enemies.

Did you know that the Pope spoke out against abortion the very next day after saying we shouldn't obsess over abortion? What do you make of that?

Also, you can't really judge a person or idea by whether or not someone else supports it. Hitler was a vegetarian. Doesn't mean that vegetarianism has anything to do with Nazism. You have to look at the merits.

true, secularism and Islam are more pressing concerns
but it could be the closeness that has grown up around common enemies
even the nonsensical concept of "Judeo-Christian" ethics
has made many Christians too comfortable with contradictory religions
