  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does anyone belong to SSPX?

Just a little correction on the language: noone "belongs" to the S.S.P.X. but its priests (it's an order of priests). Catholic laymen don't "belong" to the S.S.P.X; they belong to the Church. They just attend S.S.P.X chapels (which, by the way, the Vatican hierarchs have said can be done to fulfill one's Sunday Obligation, in case anyone was wondering -- as long as it isn't done with a "schismatic spirit," which the priests of the S.S.P.X. don't have in the first place).

I go to the so-called "indult Masses," but say Long Live the S.S.P.X! Without them, there would be no "indult." They, collectively, are the St. Athanasius of our day...

My dearest SSPXer: Christ is Risen!

Archbishop Lefebre's comment regarding Satan is very confusing. In what context did he make that statement. If you are going to use that quote in your signature, at least explain it, please.

I ask because I know he is the founder of the SSPX movement.

P.S. We have a retired SSPX priest out here in Southern California, who says the Latin Mass in a small church not affiliated with the Cardinal.

And correct me if I'm wrong but for reconciliation and the sacrament of marriage they are to see a Catholic Priest, not a sspx Catholic priest, correct? But in the case of death a confession to a sspx priest would be valid, am I correct?

My dearest joy in Christ: Christ is Risen!

That's very interesting. The local Roman Catholic clergy under the Cardinal have been telling the SSPX folks and those who go to other independent priests for Mass that they should not be coming to them for weddings and confession. Some of my friends who go to independent churches not affiliated with the Cardinal are being told that they cannot confess in the local parishes any longer. Yet there was a big story in the newspaper that if they have received any of the sacraments from any priest who is not under the cardinal, it's not licit even though it might be valid.

In other words, if you attend Divine Liturgy at a particular church, that is the church where you should receive all the sacraments. This causes confusion, doesn't it?

P.S. Ultimately that newspaper article was trying to discourage anyone from attending the SSPX or independent "underground" Mass.

Yours truly in Christ,
Elizabeth

What he is saying is that nowadays people believe that in order to be obedient Catholics they have to go along with novel ideas and practices which themselves are in disobedience to Tradition, since, for example, the Church's Tradition in fact forbids things like religious liberty and ecumenism for doctrinal reasons.

He's probably an independant priest. SSPX priests live in priories which have at least 3 priests. There's a priory somewhere in southern California, but I forgot where.

So you believe the ecumenical movement is a false ecumenism"

Yes, I've never been there but friends have said that there is a lovely priory with a beautiful little church in Arcatia, California (San Gabriel Valley in Southern California). Quite a few Orthodox have relatives who attend that church.

Your sister in Christ,

Elizabeth
