I realize these devotions are probably a subscription service, and that Dr Loh doesn't approve them individually. At least, I HOPE he doesn't!

However, I need to point out that in the "Suggestion" Board, a member complimented Dr Loh on the Wednesday Evening devotion, and asked if she would be banned for posting it elsewhere in the Forum. He stated, "Of course not!"

I wonder if he even READS them?

Peace be with you,

They are indeed a subscription service. I never saw them because the site uses JavaScript to fetch them from someplace else.

The "devotion" went on at length about "Popery". Frankly, it would have been a better devotion if it had been about Potpourri, at least it wouldn't have been pretty much an allegation that all Catholics are bad.

Just so everyone knows...Erwin has apologized for the devotional for yesterday and removed the service completely from CF.

I want to apologize sincerely to all the Catholic staff members as well as to all the Catholic members (I will make a public apology if requested).

Let me explain:

The Charles Spurgeon Morning & Evening Daily Devotional is a famous daily devotional written by the well-known Christian revivalist and preacher from the previous century. I have read many of his articles and some of his books, and although I know he is a staunch Protestant, I did not know he was that directly anti-Catholic.

The Daily Devotionals were being sourced from another Christian site and was directly placed into the homepage automatically twice a day. I had no control over its content. The Daily Devotionals (both Morning and Evening) are available as books in actual fact.

Anyway, I have removed the Daily Devotionals permanently from the homepage.

I have replaced it with some dynamic content for the moment. The homepage actually looks better, and has useful information.

Bear in mind that these dynamic content are sourced from an external site (as are the news articles) - let me know if you see anything objectionable.

Again, let me apologize for posting such an anti-Catholic article on our homepage. Although I respect Charles Spurgeon and believe he has done many great things for God, I would not have supported that particular article.

I am sorry, and hope all of you like the new homepage better.

What was wrong with it? Spurgeon is the author of "Trail of Blood", isn't he? I never noticed the devotions, I click "get new" as soon as the button pops up.

-Chris

"Trail of Blood" was actually written by Dr. J.M. Carroll, a Southern Baptist born in Arkansas in 1858. This booklet outlines the supposed history of the Baptist(anabaptist) Church. It traces the history of Baptists back to Jesus Christ himself. It states that Baptists are not protestants, in that they did not come out of the RCC, that the Baptist Church has existed alongside the RCC since the beginnings of church history. It also identifies anabaptists as having associated the Pope with the AntiChrist even before the time of the Reformers. It states that Baptists(anabaptists) were drowned, burned at the stake, and otherwise killed or persecuted by the RCC for their beliefs, such as "believer's baptism". If you take these things into account, it's easy to understand why Spurgeon was at odds with the RCC. He fervently believed that "Trail of Blood" was an accurate account. I personally have not read it in its entirety, so I do not yet know enough on the subject to form any solid opinions about it.

Below is a link for more information. Clarence Walker's introduction is particularly informative.

To Joe:

Thank you (I think) for giving that link to "Trail of Blood." I'm only about half-way through reading it, and I'm absolutely sickened by it.

I've heard that theory before, that there was a parallel, "true" Christian Church in existence and from that "true" Church came the origin of today's Baptist Church. I thought the theory was preposterous when I first heard it, and seeing it developed in such a scholarly fashion just blows my mind away. To someone who doesn't have a background in history, or better yet, the history of Christianity, I can see how this "thesis" can be plausible.

To associate "true" Christianity with the heretics is incredible! A reader would have to make a deliberate effort to research the Donatists, the Albigenses, or the Montanists to know just how off-the-wall this entire "historical chart" really is.

No WONDER there is such hatred towards the Catholic Church!

Peace be with you,
