  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm thinking it would be worth the trip - unfortunately, I can't take vacation at that time. However, my pastors might be interested.

I wish that I could come! That sounds so good! Unfortunately, I doubt that I would be able to make it. However, I hope to attend a ladies conference at Trinity Baptist in Montiville this March. Pastor Gordon cook will be preaching. I don't have any other details right now, but if anyone will be in the area, it should be a really good conference. Spurgeon sounds really good though. . .how much is a plane ticket? :D

For all of you who really appreciate Dr Schreiner as a speaker dont forget his sermons will be on sermonaudio.com as are his from his last conference at our church. His subject last year was 'Homosexuality' and the year before he spoke on Romans 8 and it was really great!
What a treat if some of the SR posters would attend this upcoming conference!

Unfortunately, I will not be able to come.
I found out that I am on spring break that weekend, but my parents are not yet ready to let me travel all that way alone. Another thing is, I already have two conferences to attend the two weeks before this one... such a shame, I really wanted to come. But, it is the will of God, so who am I to complain? Perhaps another time I will be able to make it.

Pardon me if I sound like 'Annie' as I sing, "Tomorrow, tomorrow, its only a day away!!"
Our Spurgeon conference begins in the morning and runs through Wednesday p.m.
Definitely will be worth the ticket here to hear Dr. Tom Schreiner expound on The Five Points of Calvinism!!
Makes me want to stand on the corner and wave a flag and yell, "Get your doctrine straight here!!"

Well this a.m. started the conference with the first of 5 messages! Each will focus on a letter of the T U L I P.
This a.m. we heard about the 'Total Depravity of Man'. Dr. Tom Schreiner is such a great speaker! He states that the doctrine of original sin is the most empiracally varifiable of all christian doctrine. I will share scriptures he used and highlights from each sermon.
He spoke on who and what we are before God and what we need to be saved.
Luke 11:13 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!
All areas of our life are affected by sin, because all is NOT done to the glory of God.
Five dimensions:
1). Everyone without exception sins.
Romans 3:10-12 There is none righteous, no, not one'
There is none who seeks after God.
They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one.
Romans 14:23 -whatever is not from faith is sin.
No one seeks for God on his own unless God by His Spirit summons him.
1 Kings 8:46"When they sin against You(for there is no one who does not sin).....
Proverbs 29:9 Who can say, "I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin:
For we know that all have fallen short!
2) All are born into the world as sinners.
Romans 5:12-19
v15-19 consequences of Adam's sin.
v16 judgment follows due to Adam's sin.
v17 death reigns due to Adam's sin
v18 condemnation for All men, guilty before God.
v19 many were made sinners by Adam
Ephesians 2:2-3 ...in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.....
Why does God hold us accountable for Adams sin?
It makes sense as we are organically united together as human family.
3)As sons/daughters of Adam we're slaves of sin.
John 8:34 Jesus answered them, " Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin."
Genesis 6:5 (righteous judgment of God)
Genesis 8:31( the curse due to evil intent of man's heart)
Romans 6:6( "no longer" slaves to sin)
17,18 now changed to obedience from the heart.
Free will? Yes, but...
We do have free will BUT as sons/daughters of Adam our natural choice is only to sin.
Luther's book, The Bondage of the Will.
We are free to follow our nature, which is to sin.
4) People are born spiritually incapable of discerning without the Holy Spirit.
1 Cor. 2:14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Even when folks are told they hear it but wont accept it as truth unless the Holy Spirit works on their heart!
Not a matter of intellect but spiritual discernment.
Ephesians 2:1-3 You were dead(no spiritual life at all), totally insensitive to all spiritual stimuli, eager to please self, not God.
5) Judgment and death, wages of sin.
Spiritual, eternal death---consequences of sin.
Rom 6:23
Gal 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them."
The curse rests on every person because God demands perfection.
We need a Savior and are doomed without one. We cannot save our self. We're all on the same plane and in need of the gospel!
Tonight we will speak on 'unconditional election'!
(pardon the brief and scanty notes that do no justice to such a fine speaker! I'm left handed and sat close to a right hander as the place was packed. We bumped elbows a few times but it was a great approach to the beginning of The Five Points of Calvinism)
They also had a big book table with books by Tom Schreiner, Piper, Spurgeon and others!
Wish you were there as it will go thru Wednesday!
God bless!

March 19, 2006 p.m. service. Dr. Tom Schreiner
Forgive me even scantier notes from this service as I was so intent on listening and he talks fast! I wrote little other than the scriptures he used. He chose to use only those from the New Testament but acknowledged that the bible has extensive and pervasive declarations of 'unconditional election'.
They have packaged CDs of this conference. You may order them by writing Larry Lartigue in charge of media mininstry at pfs88@hotmail.com The charge will be $10.00 plus 1.88 shipping, or just go to www.foundersbaptist.org and find them to order there.

As we are in bondage from birth due to Adam's sin we have only one hope; that hope is in God's power and grace alone. God chose some from eternity past to be saved.
( He then gave a definition which was too swift for me to jot down, sorry)
This truth is pervasive thru scripture.
Mt 11:25-27 At that time Jesus answered and said, "I thank You Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. Even so Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. All things have been delivered to Me by My Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him.
(he then gave great thoughts on the relationship between the Father and the Son and the sharing and exchange between them)
Does this bother you? Admit it, there are times this really does bother you!! Why, because you'd like to be God and make the decisions and choices!! However God is God and He and the Son choose in conference.
John 5:20-21 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.
The problem with some other religions is that the Son must be honored as God or it is not of God!
John 15:16 "You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you."
The Father also and even chose the Son. This verse also declares that there is no such thing as a believer that does not bear fruit!
John 10:26 "But you do not believe, because you are not My sheep, as I said to you, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me."
He says this clearly that they dont believe because they are not His. He does not say they are not His because they dont believe; showing that if He had chose them they would believe.
John 17:2 "as you have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him."
v6 " I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word."
v9 "I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those who You have given Me, for they are Yours."
v24 "Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory, which you have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world."
Acts 13:48 Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed.
Acts 18:9-11 Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, "Do not be afraid, but speak and do not keep silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city." And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. (referring to those who would be coming to Christ)
Then he read a story from a Reformed Presbyterian paper from Australia about John Fletcher.(sorry I couldnt get it down on paper, too fast)
Great discussion then on "foreknow", showing that yes, as the armenians believe He did look into the future and see who would be believing, BUT it was due to His own determination aforetime that He did so. He had already decleared it so!
Romans 9:11 (for the children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls),
Stress 'unconditional'. It is clearly God's choice.
Romans 11:2-6 (showing a remnant by grace, God's choice! We are chosen!)
2Timothy 1:8-10 Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel
This shows grace was given to us before we lived!
1 Peter 1:1-2 v2 elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.
v 20 He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you
1 Peter 2:9-10 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you amy proclaim the praises of Him who called yu out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

As the special and chosen of God pray daily that your hearts are renewed!
James 2:5 Listen, my beloved brethren: Has God not chosen the poor of this world to be righ in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him?
Two wills in God. ! Timothy 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9; Acts 2:23 Acts 4:27-28; Deut 28:63
As calvinists we pray for the lost, that God will bring them to Himself!
Calvinism is truth and we declare it in humility, not to show our increase in knowledge! We humbly acknowledge His hand in our salvation and give thanks daily to Him, a high and holy God!

Tonight he will preach on 'Limited Atonement'.
I so hope you will order the CDs as I know my notes cant begin to do justice to his message!
Soli deo gloria!
