  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Sorry to tell you but NO, a family does not NEED a "holiday". We don't take "holidays"...they are a luxury we can't afford...either in money or in time. Families need to spend time together...but that does not require taking a holiday.
I guess it depends in the family and me and my wife both work full time. If we don't go away in isolation a few weeks a year we don't get the time we would like. I don't know about you but I find when I stay home I never rest much. Last few times I tried it I ended up renovating or cleaning up the shed then relos visited. Going up into the mountins in a tent with a campfire is Ahh so peaceful and cheap :) it's nice there marvelling at Gods creation.

I agree with you. Camping is so relaxing to me. I love getting all set up and then just sitting.......for awhile anyway, and then later exploring the surroundings. It takes you out of the hum drum and I DO believe it is necessary to do something even if you are broke. Everyone needs a break and just because you don't choose to do what your brother does and you don't agree, doesn't mean that in his mind he doesn't "need" it. I can't afford to take the kind of vacations I would like, but I was so glad to take the vacation to go see my son graduate from BCT. I ended up taking money out of my IRA to finance it but I don't care, because God is my source and I had to go...my son was counting on it and I'm glad I did.

Yes,it is a wonderful and a restful thing to marvel at God's creation.
I feel and think that I need to take a vacation to a tropical Island at least once a year in order for me to keep my sanity. Performing does the same thing ,also.

An Air Traffic Controler is the number one most stressful job in the country. One mistake and hundreds of people will die. My job,a Clinical Laboratory Scientist,is ranked at number four. If I make a mistake, the doctor would make the wrong diagnosis on a patient. The patient could die. In the Blood Bank,if I make a mistake, while giving the patient the wrong type of blood, the paitent could and would die. So,I have to be perfect,or else some poor patient will die. Yet,God did not make me perfect. That is the situation that I face for five days a week.

Now,many people can do my job. But,many people will not do my job. Because, many people cannot stand to work with, and stand the sight of seeing blood, urine, sputum, and last but not least,.......poop.:(

I do not like the smell of poop. But,while working at Stanford Medical Center, what got me through the thought and the awful smell of working with poop, was this. This poop is my ticket for going on vacation to places like Hawaii and Tahiti.

You see,I had to go through the agony (poop smelling),in order to get to the ecstacy(a tropical island vacation and/or a cruise).

In other words,I had to go through a lot of s......,in order for me to go on a cruise. Now do you all know why I love cruising so much?

Hey Exit...are you the lucky recipient of our rule out c-diff samples?

Guess who is dealing with gathering the samples and cleaning up the patient over and over and over....

I believe that vacations are nice...but not a necessity. There are other ways to relax and reconnect. (and yes, I can camp and enjoy it but sleeping on the ground isn't as fun as it used to be). If I took a vacation right now for even a whole weekend, I would stand a good chance of failing a course (anything less than an 80 is failing) and adding an entire year to my program. So guess what, I will manage just fine without it. The sleep I do without is missed a lot more.

As for my brother...he THINKS he needs it...but it is because he believes everyone else goes on these fabulous holidays and he should too. He actually could afford to go on decent vacations if he buckled his spending down for a year or two and killed the debt. However, he doesn't. He NEEDS to pay off his debt and he NEEDS to build up a financial safety net. On his week off, he could drive down to the ocean with a library book and eat a nice meal with an ocean view, window shop, and suck up some sun. That doesn't require a hotel room or eating every meal away from the house.

Or he could grab a fishing pole and drive to a nearby state park and drown some worms for a day taking a sack lunch. Again, he could sleep in his own bed and eat out of his own kitchen and have a very satisfying day.

And if he really want to do a big splurge, he could go in and work one of his days off and earn extra money for a day and use that to have a day splurge of whatever tickled his fancy like a big steak dinner or something.
