It looks like it'll be fun to mess around with in a sandbox sort of way. It's not a very accurate representation of evolution anyway.

That it does - I hope that there will also be a facility to go directly to someone else's planet (as Animal Crossing) rather than just browsing around the galaxy once you have the appropiate technology.
I certainly don't think that Maxis are suggesting that evolution is the result of collecting sufficient DNA points ^^
