  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone read the book Raising Your Spirited Child? I'm currently reading it and it's amazing so far. My son has always been energetic and on the move. Even in the womb!! Seriously, I thought he'd just jump right out sometimes. Now that he's 3, things are really hectic sometimes. I thought there was something wrong w/ my parenting or with him. This book has been good because it shows I'm NOT a bad mom and there's nothing wrong with him. He's energetic, passionate and enthusiastic. It shows me how to "deal" with behaviors like aggression, tantrums etc.
It was especially difficult for me (I thought) because I was a social worker before staying home w/ my son adn thought I HAD to have the answers and have a really good kid. People would make comments like "he's really hyper isn't he" or they would actually avoid us on playdates and such. It was really sad for me to see that. Now that I know I"m not alone and that there is positives about his active behavior, I can be a better mom.
NOt sure if anyone else has read the book or if they have really "spirited" kids, but I'd love to hear from you.

Doesn't it feel good to pick up a book and find some answers for questions you had going into it? Those are the books I seek to get for my home library cuz I find that I like to reference the book frequently.

I have heard of the book and have picked it up at the library with an inquisitive eye but I just never was really drawn to it. My son was a high needs infant and now at 3 I would describe him as being highly sensitive over spirited. He is not hyper at all but parenting him requires just as much energy and intensity as a spirited child.
