I love Spirited Away. I saw it for the first time on TV in German, but I couldn't easily find a DVD with the original Japanese, an English dub, and a German dub, so I've just got it in Japanese and English. Haku is my favourite character - dragon fan here, and besides he's rather a cunning character - but I also like the Sootballs.
Other ones I've seen:
Totoro is just a wonder-filled film: no villain, no horror, and thoroughly entertaining. The umbrella scene is just so hilarious, and that wacky Catbus...!
Howl's Moving Castle is beautifully animated and I like Howl's character, but the story got muddled and by the end of it I was wondering what was going on and why I should care. And Calcifer, unfortunately, got on my nerves.
The Cat Returns has bits that made me laugh - or groan, in the case of the worse jokes - and I like cats. It was entertaining.
I gave up watching Ponyo partway through because the title character annoyed me so much.
I gave up watching Grave of the Fireflies partway through as well, although that was because after the first ten minutes I couldn't stop crying for the rest of the day. I have never dared to return to it and probably never will.
Princess Mononoke is extremely violent. I like the character design of Mononoke herself - but I would never watch it again.
I liked the cat in Kiki's Delivery Service but not much else. Probably because I like cats.
Whisper of the Heart wasn't what I was expecting - I'd heard it was a prequel to The Cat Returns, so I was expecting something more along those lines. Therefore, I didn't find it particularly appealing... it was okay, but I wouldn't go out of my way to rewatch it. I also wouldn't go out of my way to avoid it.

So, Rhamiel... try My Neighbour Totoro. It's literally as far from horrible as you can get, it's got the magic of Spirited Away (although it's far simpler) and it's an absolute joy to watch.
By the way, can anybody tell me if Pom Poko is any good? (As in, is it amusing, is it well-animated, does the story make sense?)
