  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone here had a bible spiral bound?
I just took the book Religious Affections to Kinko's to have it spiral bound and inquired whether they could spiral bind a bible. She said the newer paperback bibles with a little heavier pages works much better. I dont want to buy another bible but on the site below they tell how to bind one and insert extra pages for notes. I'd love the extra pages for notes!
Anyone tried any of these changes?

I have a Thompson Chain reference Bible Workbook edition that is loose leaf with blank pages for notes and another loose leaf three ring Bible that I can use when preaching and be able to put my sermon notes in and have the references handy as well. I use a wide margin Bible for study that I have worn out and it is full of notes in the margins. I finally found one just like it that I now use in the pulpit as it is easier for me to find the passages because they are the same place on the page as my old one.

The Thompson one is rather cumbersome as it is a tri-fold. The other loose leaf is rather large as well and I always felt a little odd about carying such a big notebook into the pulpit.

Mac -

You can get an NASB loose leaf Bible from monergism here: http://www.monergismbooks.com/nasblooseleaf.html
Thanks everyone! I just got that 1599 Geneva bible recently and it is great and I most usually use my NKJV Study Bible so I hate to 'break-in' another new one. I'd hoped I could change one into a spiral bound with extra pages but it appears most unlikely! In breaking in a new one; hard to do, as you know how your old notes are priceless and easy to find when you need them. I will look at that one from monergism and give it consideration!
Now that I've had Religious Affections spiral bound I may do that to some others; really makes them easy to handle!
Thanks all for good ideas here!!

Well, today I got Religious Affections back, all nicely spiral bound! Why did I not think of such before? Cost me $4.28. Actually I got the idea from my son who teaches a class, World Missions at a christian high school. He has this done to all of his textbooks to make them easier to work with.
I'm still facinated with the possibility of having it done to a bible, rather than buying another new one! Oh well, I'll think on that tomorrow!

Hey Mac -

I'm willing to bet (if we Calvinists did that) your son got the idea from Jonathan Edwards himself. I recently heard a stroy that John Piper told of how he got to look at a copy of Edward's Bible and saw that he had taken the binding off of it and re-bound it with a blank page in between every printed page. If he didn't get the idea from Edwards you can be blessed to know that he at least thinks a little like him!

I definitely would be blessed to know he thinks like him!
What a really great story; love it! I plan to ask him about that! He is presently preparing for another pastor's conference in India so another teacher will sub for him till he returns!
Who would have thought Jonathan Edwards did the same to his bible? Shows it to be a great idea!
