In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Anyone else here absolutely hate Spiderman 1 and 2 but would go to #3 depending on the villain? If Venom is in #3, I would actually go see the film. If not, well, the series sucks as it is, so I won't really mourn the loss of a great opportunity.

But who do you think would be a great Venom? I'm voting Vin Diesel or the Rock.

And if they did Venom in this movie, they could slide right through into Carnage next one. But then again, I doubt Carnage would really get done very well simply because that movie would require an 'R' rating for gore and content.

Vin Diesel as Venom, that'd be kinda cool.

The Rock would be harder to picture, he's got kind of a good guy thing going. The Rock would be better in X-men or something, maybe recast him as the steel guy, whatever his name is.

Well let's see. Spiderman 2 sets the stage for 3 villains, The Lizard (Curt Connors), the second Green Goblin (Harry Osborne), and Manwolf (John Jameson). But Manwolf is one of the most hated comic book villains of all time, so I think we can throw him straight out. The Lizard seems to be unlikely as well, because Doctor Connors now teaches physics, rather than having knowledge in the biology that would lead to his transformation. Like John Jameson, I think his character was placed in the movie just to add more grounding in the comic book world. Something is going to be happening with Harry, that is clear, but it isn't clear whether the revelation that his father was the Green Goblin will horrify him and cause him to forgive Peter, or whether he will continue with his lust for revenge and become the Green Goblin. Both scenarios seem equally likely.

Venom I suppose is a possibility since they could have John Jameson bring it back from space (that's pretty much how they did it in the show, if not in the comic, after all), but considering that Eddie Brock has not yet been introduced, much less his reason for hating Peter Parker, that seems like a lot of development to occur in one movie, especially considering that the development with Harry needs to occur. So venom to me seems unlikely in the next movie. Perhaps if they end up doing 4 (which probably won't happen, but you never know) they will have him in the fourth, but for the third it is very unlikely.

So what other villains could we have? The more classic ones would be Shocker, Hobgoblin, Rhino, Mysterio, Scorpion, Chameleon, Vulture, Beetle, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, Sandman and Kingpin. That includes all the members of both Sinister Sixes and the Sinister Seven who have not appeared yet, among other things. Hobgoblin is too similar to the Green Goblin, and if they were going in that direction they'd use Harry as the second Green Goblin. Shocker, Rhino, Beetle are not teribly interesting to me, and Sandman is rather unknown outside of the comic books. Kingpin was used in the Daredevil movie, so that's a no go. Mysterio and the Chameleon always had ambiguous motives, so I don't know how well they would work in these movies that seem to like human villains. And I'm not quite sure what a struggle with Electro would cause Paker to realize about himself, since Electro was just a guy who gained the power to whip electricity around. So that leaves us with Scorpion, the Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, and another Green Goblin any of which would be interesting villains if you ask me. It all depends on what conflict the next movie is supposed to be about, really.

Colossus has already been cast. Daniel Cudmore is returning from X2 to play him again.

The bad guy will be The Lizard. Peter's professor becomes him in the comic book so that's prob who it'll be
Exactly! Venom, from what I've heard from some places, may have his own movie, so I doubt he'll be in the 3rd Spider-Man. Plus the other villians have been set up much better than Venom.

Lol...Vin Diesle or The Rock? :D I'd say neither, please. I actually love the first two and would hate seeing any of them in it! Neither are very good actors, imo...although, The Rock is hott and he's getting a lot better as he goes along. AND...we need another Swartzenegger or however that's spelled. Just wait...I can see the campaign ads for Rock for President already. That was lame...sorry to subject you all to that. But, yes...let's hope for good villians in Spiderman 3!!! I'm praying that they don't go back to the Green Goblin...he was far too obnoxious.

i smell two villans in spidey 3 as mentioned above. im assuming a characters like the green/hob goblin, sandman, mysterio, lizard, or kraven would be a probable villan for the next one. as much as i would love to see venom in the next one, i find it unlikely. there would need to be more development of the story...wait..BRING ON A THREE HOUR MOVIE!!

They said they are hoping to do 9 movies total. And that it is not necessarily going to be the second green goblin in the third movie , though I think that may be trying to hide the obvious. I want to see the rhino myself, if nothing else then as a supporting villian.

Well Sam Raimi might be willing to direct 9, but Columbia pictures has said that they want the series to stop at three. So the series might continue after the third one, but it certainly isn't a sure thing.

If they want to go on popularity of the cartoon and games they've been releasing about Spiderman for the last 10 years, then it would be a good marketing move to have the villain to be Venom. I know I would be more inclinded to see the movie if that was the villain.

But in all honesty I think they should steal the supervillain from the Tick cartoon series and get the..."Mad Bomber, what bombs at midnight!"

it should be Carnage vs. Venom vs. Spider-Man. that would be a sight to see.
What is so great about Carnage? I admit that I do not understand the depth of the Venom craze, but Venom is at least a worthwhile character. He is a somewhat original way of creating a nemesis of spiderman with similar powers (though Doctor Octopus already sort of filled that role), and the fact that he is really two people (the alien and Brock) makes his character somewhat interesting. Brock wanted revenge, but not to the extent Venom wants it.

But Carnage isn't original since he's just a rehash of Venom, and since both parts of him think little more than "KILL DESTROY" he isn't all that interesting. Yet he's apprantly one of the most popular villains in Spiderman. I must be missing something.
