  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The only problem there is that sometimes governments pass laws that are sinful.

If the Government passes a law that is sinful then of course we don’t obey it.

Acts 5:
24: Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
25: Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
26: Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
27: And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28: Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
29: Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

But when it comes to speeding, the laws are supposed to be there mainly for our protection right? Well what if traveling at the speed limit creates an unsafe situation? In that case it would seem better for a Christian to focus on safety first, and the letter of the law second.

I hope your not saying that sometimes speeding is faster than going the speed limit because that’s a bunch of bull. And if you’re saying that sometimes going slower than the speed limit is safer then you are correct. Weather conditions, such as snow and ice, will require one to drive slower than the speed limit. The speed limit is just that the limit, its not a speed have to. All states I’ve lived in also have a law which says that no one can drive faster then is safe for the conditions that are present. Therefore one could be charge with speeding even if they are going under the speed limit (such as when someone looses control of their car on a snowy road, they may be going under the posted speed limit but are still in violation of law).

You are obviously very smart thinking that the Government speaks for God.

The government does not speak for God but God gave authority for governments to rule over the people. Of course as stated above the government cannot require us to go against any of God’s commands.

Romans 13:
1: Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2: Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

Where I live though, most drivers drive over the speed limit and sometimes when the freeways are packed with traffic travelling at 80 mph it can be really unsafe to merge at 55 mph. I hope you don't consider it to be a sin for someone to travel at the speed of traffic in order to avoid an accident.

Of all the things to worry about....so what if the limit is 55 and you go 56..please. You can split hairs over any issue.

It's not that complex. It's man's law. If you break it and get caught, prepare to pay fines.

Everyone breaks the law in concept. If you have a speeding problem, seek
professional help before you kill someone.

Is speeding a sin? The Bible says to be subject to the governmental authorities but yet we should be even more concerned for the safety of others and sometimes going to the speed limit endangers others lives whereas going with the flow of traffic does not. What do you all think?

I think that if you want to call yourself a christian, fornication is a bigger issue than driving over the speed limit. Just my 2 cents.
