The only problem there is that sometimes governments pass laws that are sinful.
If the Government passes a law that is sinful then of course we dont obey it.
Acts 5:
24: Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow.
25: Then came one and told them, saying, Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people.
26: Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned.
27: And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them,
28: Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us.
29: Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
But when it comes to speeding, the laws are supposed to be there mainly for our protection right? Well what if traveling at the speed limit creates an unsafe situation? In that case it would seem better for a Christian to focus on safety first, and the letter of the law second.
I hope your not saying that sometimes speeding is faster than going the speed limit because thats a bunch of bull. And if youre saying that sometimes going slower than the speed limit is safer then you are correct. Weather conditions, such as snow and ice, will require one to drive slower than the speed limit. The speed limit is just that the limit, its not a speed have to. All states Ive lived in also have a law which says that no one can drive faster then is safe for the conditions that are present. Therefore one could be charge with speeding even if they are going under the speed limit (such as when someone looses control of their car on a snowy road, they may be going under the posted speed limit but are still in violation of law).
You are obviously very smart thinking that the Government speaks for God.
The government does not speak for God but God gave authority for governments to rule over the people. Of course as stated above the government cannot require us to go against any of Gods commands.
Romans 13:
1: Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2: Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
