Spectators at rehearsal?

Do you mind when people are around when you are rehearsing? Does it cause you stress?

I was with a person who was rehearsing once, and they left the room after just a few minutes. It bothered me.

I prefer closed rehearsals. It's important we have a place where we can play around, try stuff out, and make lots of mistakes.

It doesn't bother me or my band if there's spectators at our practices or not. These same people (and more) will be at our gigs when we play live, so we dont really see that big of a deal about it.

But, if it's a practice the night before/of a gig, then we hold closed practices so that nobody knows what we'll be doing during the show.

Durring the creative process, I don't let anyone near. Once I'm sure about what I've written and want to start practicing with the band, it's closed for about 2 weeks to a month.

For shows, doesn't really matter. Local crews will always be around.

I guess I'm making a distinction between "rehearsal" and "warmup." I don't mind people around during warmup, especially if it's the people who are doing their jobs to get things ready to go.

I'm not a fan of people in on the rehearsals. It's hard for me stop from switching to performance mode a little too early.

It never bothered me to have people at our practices. Since we were writing original material anyways and improvising most of it till we managed to get a hook or nice melody. We improvised so much as a 3 peice group that we could have played an entire show of 10 diff songs totally improvised with lyrics and melody that no one would have noticed.

My group pretty much only plays improvised music, so basically every rehearsal is a potential gig and every gig is a potential rehearsal.

If we're just playing through songs I don't mind. I don't like to write with spectators, though.
