  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It is not meant to help the person speaking in tongues necessarily, but is intended to be a benefit for the Church (1 Cor 12, and 1 Cor 14). It is an outward sign of edification and a sign of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 14:22). It is not a required sign for salvation, but is a sign used early on of the Holy Spirit's infusion into the new Believers. There are some who say the two instances in Acts (Pentecost and at Ephesus) where tongues come on the new believers are indicative of what should occur in all new Believers.

They are used as a sign. It is not emotionalism, because tongues spoken about in 1 Cor 12 are not from man (source of emotion), but from God.

Tongues are much maligned in today's churches because of their extreme misuse in some churches. Tongues as a sign of salvation is a reoccurrence of the Corinthian problem in today's world.

Scripture (again 1 Cor 12 and 14) tells us that interpretation should be coupled with speaking in tongues. It does not state that they must be coupled, but implies that they will in most cases.

I know there is Scriptural support for speaking in tongues, but what real merit does it bring? Does it actually help you to grow spiritually, or is just a bunch of spiritual emotionalism?

Tongues was and I say again a SIGN gift. If you read in I cor.1:22 " For the Jews require a sign and the Greeks seek after wisdom. "
When we come to the N.T. we need to keep reminding ourselfs that the Jews brought the Salvation to the world.
Down through History there was always a sign given to prove that the message was from God. We mistakingly look at the letters of Paul and think they were to a bunch of Christian, with little Jewish ties.
Most everyone in the early church were Jews and they required a sigh. Tongues was Just a Sign, along with healing, miracles, dicerning of Spirits Prophecy, etc.

These were all special gifts to the Jews to show that the church was form God. THERE GOD.

In AD 70 there was the last sign to the Jews and that was destroying of the Temple, Showing them that He (God) was through with the Jewish nation and would build His church. AD 70 all sign gift stoped and we as the church do not require a sing, for we live by faith.
