Speaking in Tongues Questions.

So how would you put a barrier on someone doing this tongues prayer? Say if one person does his prayer language display, then the next one comes along and he wants to be a little louder, then the next one and they want to move their arms a little, the next move their feet a little. You see were I'm going with this right? Is there a barrier here of some type?

The pastor leader announces that we will now operate 2 or 3 gifts of tongues, each followed by interpretation and 2 or 3 prophecies and that only members of the Revival Fellowship should seek to be used - such people have been decontaminated of the "God makes me do it"-type doctrine that pervades some groups by being taught from scripture that God wouldn't want unclear or our-of control communication

Or maybe there can't be a barrier for it would be rude to interrupt the spirit?
We can discern what God's Spirit wants and what is of "the flesh"

Here's what I think, I just read those chapters you mentioned: I think Paul gives you the go ahead for this tongue speaking thing... maybe...it's highly debatable, that this is simply a language of men.
It's only "debatable" (i.e. doubtful) for people who have no revelation of what actually works, instead they are confused.

But if it is this prayer tongue... If, he puts it to the bottom of the pile, also there's an obvious suggestion there at the end of 1 Cor 13, that you should strive to become a more mature Christian...
It is a common false teaching of false churches that they have "love" ionstead of "minor gifts" such as tongues interpretation and prophecy.
In fact the next verses explain:

"Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy..." (14:1...)

So, the "more excellent way" is in fact using the gifts. Any church that doesn't, certainly isn't mature, if indeed they are even alive spiritually (most aren't).

There is a phenomena called "ecstatic speech". When a person is overcome with emotion they can respond with movement such as dance or with sounds such as with ecstatic speech.

I think this is often confused with "speaking in tongues".
I hate to say it, but this is the kind of response given by those who do not do it. Speaking in tongues really has nothing to do with emotions. It is your spirit, not your soul that is expressing itself. You can feel the love of God and respond with your emotions. Most people respond in love to their mates and it's in the heart but their emotions are part of who they are too, so it is not uncommon to have an emotional reponse.

It isn't 'born' out of your emotions though. This comes out of your spirit. It builds you up on "your most holy faith". If you do it long enough, you really become alive to the things of the Spirit. If you start doing it for awhile, I find that it comes out of you periodically without much thought. You can read and do this at the same time. It's kind of a "siphoning" effect. It has a momentum.

It almost always sounds like you're making it up, but it's powerful and you should just turn your mind off (or make it sit in the corner!) because your spirit man is flowing. Your mind will tell you this because it doesn't have a part in the formation of it (although it might seem like it). What else would your mind tell you? Hey, now I'm not involved here, so you're making it up! Sometimes if you work this often, after you stop you hear words in English follow that are instructive and edifying. That's the interpretation (not translation). Some people have gone far in the ministry based on this prayer time and interpretation.

Don't let anyone talk you out of it and for those who haven't indulged, I encourage you to ask God to fill you and then act like He did. If you need to, meditate out loud on the promise about the baptism of the Holy Spirit (out loud) and keep meditating on it. It will work in your spirit and eventually it will take on a whole different meaning. Watch what ends up happening!

In the New Testament two lists of gifts appear in which the gift of tongues is included. In 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 “kinds of tongues” and “the interpretation of tongues” are said to be sovereignly bestowed gifts of the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 12:28-30 “tongues” appears in the list of gifts. We call them “spiritual gifts” from the Greek word charisma, suggesting that the gift is a bestowment of God’s grace. It is not a natural ability that one might develop, but rather a special gift as those appearing in the above mentioned passages in First Corinthians.

1. Tongues is a gift and, like all other gifts, it is not for everyone. Tongues is a sign of the holy Spirit, but if you don't speak in tongues doesn't mean you don't have the HS.

2. Tongues is not for show. One can pray in tongues as long as it is for personal edification. Don't just go up on stage and go off, as that doesn't help the church(there are exceptions).

3. There are different gifts of tongues, BTW. One is called your "prayer language". This is usually not another language, but rather your souls groanings, as I put it. The other is another legit language. Obviously the two can be inter-mingle. I have heard stories of people going up to random people and talking in their prayer language and the person receiving Christ from it. Isn't that helpful to the Kingdom!

Tongues must be used wisely. I usually pray in tongues when I have nothing else to say, but still want to pray or whatnot. Its not demonic, although I have heard some say that their are demonic tongues, but I don't know for sure.

Also, I would have no idea if you are speaking in tongues, as there isn't definitive grammar or words. Its all personal. If you feel like you are just making stuff up then I would start to pray in English(or whatever you pray in), and if your spirit wants to, just let it out. Remember, not everyone speaks in tongues, its a gift. But if you want it, have some elders pray over you for it and get some guidance from others with the gift.

Go in Love!

One of the signs Jesus said would follow believers is that they would speak with new tongues. This is the personal prayer language for "the believer". If you're a believer, you can do this. It's different from the gift spoken of "Do all speak with tongues?" (That's the diversities of tongues gifting.) That's because Jesus said the signs following the believer. I once thought that it was not for everyone, but the Holy Spirit got through to me that it was. It's so beneficial for the believer that it wouldn't be fair to give someone a means to edify themselves and not another.

Always go with the Words of Jesus. It the Word seems to contradict itself, it's because their is a context where it is properly understood. Jesus said believers will speak with new tongues. You don't have to, but you'll want to because you'll edify yourself in the process.

To Alive Again,

I agree. All believer can(as in "have the ability") to have a prayer language. But not everyone will.

My parents are utterly opposed to the idea, but it doesn't mean they don't have the capability. Others may feel like they would be "showboating", so decide not to do it.

Well I was talking to one of my pastors that I know online, and he told me to read 1 Corinthians 12-14 and I did than he told me about, needing an interpreter in order to speak in tongues in church, does this still apply for speaking in tongues while praying and while in private and speaking to the LORD?

Another Question:

Yesterday, the group TheGreatAwakening is at my church, by the way, and I went up for a prayer for salvation for assurance than, we went up to pray individually and one of the guys started saying something like this "Jesus fill these people with the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues." IMMEDIATELY I was praying and than I started saying these words I did not understand and my stomach started burning, I did not know if that is what it was, than he came up to me and it started again, this time I had an approval from someone. I do not know if he is an interpreter, BUT he knew I was speaking in tongues, also when I speak in tongues it sounds like I am making up words, unlike those who sounds so amazing. SO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF I AM OR AM I NOT.:liturgy::liturgy::liturgy::liturgy::liturgy::liturgy::liturgy:

1.) No interpreter needed when speaking in private.

2.) When you ask for it God gives it, whether you think you're making up words or not...YOU HAVE IT, so thank God everyday for it!

3.) Don't try to overthink it, figure it out, or figure others out. That's the devils long and strategic tactic in having you not believe..just SPEAK regardless of repition of words or feelings!

4.) If you want interpretation when speaking in private ask God and He will let you understand what He wants you to understand.

5.) Finally pray and sing in tongues more than your natural language! Trust me on this one, you'll definitely want to do this! :)
