What this shows is the the Republicans are not like the Democrats. The Democrats who always vote along party lines. The Republicans actually have minds of their own sometimes and not mindless zombies who do whatever they are told to by leadership.

Democrats used to do that when they had moderates in their party. Not any more.

Put up or shut up, Mr Speaker

Shortly after becoming House speaker in late October, Mike Johnson sat down for an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity and declared, “We can’t allow Vladimir Putin to prevail in Ukraine, because I don’t believe it would stop there, and it would probably encourage and empower China to perhaps make a move on Taiwan. We have these concerns. We’re not going to abandon” Ukraine.

From that, you might have expected Johnson (R-La.) to get a Ukraine aid bill passed in November or December. Or January. Or — well, you get the idea. Here we are, going into March, and no aid package for Ukraine has passed the House.

In November, Johnson talked up the idea of using more than $300 billion in seized Russian assets to help Ukraine. “It would be pure poetry to fund the Ukrainian war effort with Russian assets,” he told the New York Post.

Nothing has been done on that front, either. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Tuesday, replying to a reporter’s question about the Russian billions, “We still need more legislative authorities from Congress for the president to be able to act on that, to, quote, unquote, ‘spend it’ the way you’re talking about.” Apparently, no one in Congress has gotten the ball rolling on that legislative authority, either.
