CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And which was not done with the approval of the Papacy, but rather at the bequest of the State, and which also inflamed Rome and would have resulted in the deposition of the perpetrators but for the intercession of the royals. You also fail to point out that these 'converts' came to the Church under false pretenses, namely for the express purpose of owning land and operating businesses, and who then proceeded to profess Christianity with their mouths while holding Jewish and Muslim ceremonies and worship in secret. It is these who were the target of the Inquisition, although no-one, not even the Church, denies that abuses and atrocities occured angainst innocent parties. The point being that these abuses and atrocities were NOT the will of the Church, and therefore were NOT employed to 'keep Catholics in line'. Which is what you originally claimed and why the article you posted does not address it. Perhaps you would like to rephrase or retract your statement?
