I am getting at least 50 spam messages every day. I am getting spammed with viruses, porn, newsletters, get rich quick schemes, weight loss, people who claim to be 'long lost cousins' (I don't have any cousins), and other mess. It's driving me crazy! If I can't find a way to stop this, then I may just sell my computer.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If it is email, then just set up a new account elsewhere and don't use that account to sign up for anything online. Just give it to friends or people that you know won't sell it.
If it is pop ups, then get a pop up blocker of some sort. That will kill a lot of it. Depending on what OS you are running, there are also things that you can do to stop some of the pop ups.

spam is easy to stop.
first get a new email account.
make sure the email account is something that the engines don't go for. name.name@hotmail.com is a bad one, as is name_name etc. try words with an amusing twist or misspelling.
NEVER publish your email address online. if you HAVE to for some reason, type:
blahblahAThotmailDOTcom
the spiders will never catch you that way
if you do get any spam DO NOT REPLY. most spam is just a way of getting active email addresses to add to lists that are sold for money. most are fake.
have a separate email account for registration to websites.
just a few tips. enjoy.

Get a filter for your mail and have it all go to a certain folder... then you can just empty that one folder every day.

Great advice. I was going to post it, but you posted it, so I'll just endorse it.
I've done this with my personal e-mail account, and you know what? I have only gotten 45 spams in almost 2 years (in October) of being online. Two for a hentai site that got my address as a result of someone's practical joke, three for "normal" porn, the rest for financial services (investments, mortgages, etc), Liveprayer.com, and assorted other forwards and offers. Still, that's not even a spam a day, and I'm happy
Compare this to my much less careful sister who had to learn the hard way-she has around 45-50 spams a day.
