CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As I said, I believe I over-estimated the poll and so I admit the argument to be both my fault and based on my wrong assumption.
Were my assumption correct, however, I stand by the things I said.

As far as the subject/object confusion, are any of you familiar with the somewhat New Age concept of 'The Witness' (as proposed by people such as Ken Wilber and Michael Singer)?
Essentially, in my belief, there are only two pure subjects, that of God and that of individual awareness--everything else is an object to which the pure subject is aware; however, my personal conception goes into greater detail regarding the power of reason, which can't truly be objectified, and the nature of objects.
Maybe that will shed some light on what I mean when I talk about subject and objects.

We care about morality because we care about life and existence. We want to live and as a consequence we intuitively want to favor our existence and others. The purpose of morality is to favor life.
