BTW on the EWTN program the Journey Home the featured guest was a young man from Britain whose dad was a strip club DJ. He grew up to become a criminal and drug addict and through a series of events he converted to Catholicism and became a Franciscan friar! He talked about visiting his dad at the strip club as a child and how it damaged his relationships with women. His story brings up of the issue of children of sex workers and how their lives are affected by what their parents do. I knew several single moms and dads at my club, one a grandmom.

The program repeats on Saturday night so I encourage people to tune in.

This is my favourite show on TV! I can't wait to see it! Thanks for letting me know. I never catch it on Mondays because it's on while I'm making supper.

I read on Luke Ford that Chasey Lain is referred to by some as "The Girl with the Empty Eyes." That is exactly what I saw in a co-worker of mine who had gotten into porn. She was so visibly unhappy. Interestingly, someone on Stripperweb made a nasty, snyde comment about my observation that my co-worker's eyes looked so sad. Like how stupid to actually express compassion for the suffering of a porn actress. What a cold-hearted world.

You can almost always spot sex workers for their eyes. They often have the dead, sometimes empty eyes of a severely depressed woman or the glazed, brittle eyes of someone that is adamant on doing something but do not know why.

I have a friend who was the security chief of a casino and I often stand with him (while visiting him on the job) on the scalators in the second floor playing, "spot the hooker". Even if they often tried to dress as civilian women their eyes often betrayed them. So they were asked to leave.

I hope things are starting to move in my world.

I am meeting with the president of my parish's Catholic Women's League this week (she's my RCIA sponsor) to talk about my spiritual journey but I really do want to let her know where my heart is about all of this stuff.

The CWL in my church already has a heart for women in the sex industry but I think it's all been presentations and books and letters to the Premier (who couldn't care less) so far.
They were passing around the book "the Natashas" by Victor Malarek which is an investigation of the trafficked women of the former Soviet Union and also a dvd of a talk that he gave in Vancouver some time ago so they have an interest obviously. However, I know that them knowing someone (me) who was formerly in the industry would humanize things for them and perhaps fuel the fire a bit.
I'd really like to see the CWL, the whole Catholic and non-Catholic church and whoever else is on board to really galvanize and inject some truth into this whole debate before they try to legalize prostitution before the Vancouver Olympic games in 2010.

I wrote to the Swedish government today to inquire about the process that they used. Only God knows how long it will take them to get back to me but it's a start. I wrote to the Mnistry of Justice- hope that was the correct one.

On a completely unrelated note, I "officially" started potty training Meaghan today and between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. I have changed her underwear 15 times. She made it to the potty once. that's not bad eh?

But for starters, building a pool of Priests, deacons, nuns, lay social workers, doctors, psychologists, family and crimminal lawyers willing to learn who to help sex workers who want to quit should be in the list of priorities.

Maybe bringing up to BC people like former escort Anne Bissell (and if she still working with Anne) former porn actress Cleo Cameron to help start 12 steps self help groups in Canada would be a start.

In Sweden contact also the Liberal Women of Sweden group.

For sure, I agree... this will take time and resources of course and willing people who want to help.

I also might add that the "Pimping for Jesus" estigma shall be avoided at all costs.

One of the criticism of the evangelicals protestant efforts towards helping women out of the sex industry is the "you shall become a evangalical Christian in order we can help you" message. That is not really true but is often portrayed by industry people in that way. That turns out many women that need help but for some reasons have troubles with Christianity, religion or certains brands of religion. And makes uneasy for potential allies. Even Anne Bissell have started the uneasyness with the pimping for Jesus message.
And some women become Christians in the industry and have to bit the bullet and stay there for a while before dropping out. Some others do become Christians and drop immediatly and some others drop the industry and become Christians years later when dealing with the aftermath. All of them need help.
So any proyect must adress the needs of all of them. And be ecumenically minded. So even is you are a Catholic Christian you shall make space in the apostolate for non catholic christians and for non christians who do not like the sex industry and are concerned by the women working there.

A friend of mine who is a Bible teacher told me that the best way to address a secular crow is to start talking about the subject (law and economics in his case, the sex industry in your case) using secular arguments and them introduce them to the Christian teachings.
To a Christian audience he does the opposite. He starts with Christ and them goes to the secular world.

I think sometimes the best lesson for christians is a practical one. Have to be careful though because theres a fine line between educating them and scaring the living day lights out of them.

Journalist Luke Ford have to say this in July 31, 2007 about porn recruting tactics and Myspace:

Four years ago, LA Direct Models had 90 girls. Spiegler had about 30. World Modeling had about 50. And then there were a bunch of small agencies.
With internet companies desperate for updates and not wanting to shoot the same girl over and over, the agencies are taking on more girls (because they’ll make about $200 per girl per scene).
There’s a massive infusion of new girls. LA Direct has 121 girls now. Gold Star has 102. Foxxx has 50. Exotic Star has 40. Lisa Ann has 40. Spiegler has 30. You’ve tripled the number of girls in the business. As porn becomes more accepted, more girls will get in. MySpace has revolutionzed porn because it is so easy to get girls off MySpace.
If you’ve been in porn longer than a year, (mentions several well know porn actresses by name) have two options — do more extreme porn or escort.

And the number keeps growing. Last time I checked LA Direct, the biggest agency in the San Fernando Valley had about 130 girls. And the owner of that agency, a English expat is well known to be paid "consultant" to well known "escort" agencies.
So parents be aware of Myspace.

Warning: It has come to my knowledge that many of the so called adult modelling agencies, despite being "legal" modeling agencies are heavely involved in illegal activities in both California and Florida.
Shooting porn is techically ilegal prostitution in Florida despite tolerance of the Miami, Tampa, Orlando and Fort Laureldale authorities.
Despite shooting porn is legal in California, It was come to my knowledge that both in Cali and in Florida some of those "Model agencies" are heavily involved in ilegal prostitution. And rapes, cohersion and even death threats had been reported.
So do not discuss openly any personal issues or experiences that you might have with them. Only talk into a general way or by PM.

This warning comes from an unusual source: convicted pimp Antoin Thurman.
"I’ve realized I wouldn’t want to see my daughter, my mother or sister in this predicament I had these girls in," said Thurman, a Phoenix resident serving a three-year sentence in the Arizona Department of Corrections, ASPC-Douglas. "Not only did I mess up my life but I messed up their lives."
Thurman, 21, this week described in an educational video how he recruited girls at malls and clubs and lured them into selling their bodies.
The 20-minute video is the brainchild of Judge Lex Anderson of Lake Pleasant Justice Court. Anderson sought and received $42,000 from the Judicial Collection Enhancement Fund to do the project. Anderson has spearheaded other educational programs focusing on topics such as drinking and driving and domestic violence.
A case in his courtroom involving a teenage prostitute stirred Anderson’s interest and led to his discovery that child prostitution was not an aberration. It’s estimated 8,000 children in Arizona are victims of sexual exploitation.
