• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I add a little Echinacea to a glass of water or juice 2-3 times per day. It seems to boost my immune system and I get over an upper respiratory much faster than I do w/o it, especially if I take it when the symptoms are just beginning.

Outside of that, gargle with hot saltwater and get a humidifier going, take some aspirin or Ibuprofen, and if you're not better in a week, call your doctor, because that means it's an infection which will not go away on its own.

Honey, salt water rinse, mouth wash gargled.

I don't like the idea of gargling personally, I feel like I might make myself sick or it would be unpleasant. I don't get how salt water doesn't make it worse personally. Just me though.

Sprite///pop
also - Sucrets

I think we have sprite. I rarely drink sodas so I kinda forget about what they can do good for you. What are sucrets? Sugar things? (French sugar = sucre so that's what I see)

I'm going to be completely honest I have no idea what Echinacea is. Never heard of it that I remember. I have Advil I don't know about ibuprofen and almost definitely no aspirin.

Salt has natural healing properties. A teaspoon dissolved in hot water just swished around the mouth not swallowed will sooth and neutralise bacteria.

Echinacea is an extract in liquid or pill form from the Echinacea plant/flower. Advil is Ibuprofin. You can also take Tylenol on top of your Advil, I believe, if the pain is severe, as one is a pain killer, and the other is an anti-inflammatory.

I realised too the little puffs in the air are probably cottonwood. It's not as bad as ragweed for me but it's uncomfortable.

You can get them at Wal-Mart in flat tin containers. They are sore throat & cough lozenges. Mine is vapor cherry and has vitamin C and zinc in it. I used Sprite before as it can give the throat a real quick kick of help. A guy told me that his mom is a doctor and she thinks Sprite is good to help a sore throat. Are you feeling any better?

A little. Walking around Walmart makes me kind of happy. All of the choices. But I'm not driving home with my weight in chocolate. ;)

Ick. Anyway, what sort of food/drink helps with this? :)

If you have a dry, unproductive (no phlegm or mucous) cough you may not want to stifle it as it can indicate 'bad stuff' leaving your body through your lungs, and coughing is the mechanism that removes it. "Smoker's cough" is an example and coughing is needed to relieve it.
