  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have 2.5 more hours to go of work, and no hope of getting off early! I am an accountant, and we are in the middle of tax season, so I need to be able to function.

There is a couch in my office, and it is sooo calling my name! It looks so comfy.

Any ideas on how to survive this first trimester with having to work LOOONNNGGG hours?

I need ENERGY!! HELP!!

Whew, I definitely remember that "must sleep or die" feeling. The good news is, it really only lasts a few weeks, so hang in there! I did it as a first year teacher with sixteen preschoolers. I think the thought of my boss walking in with me sleeping on the rug was enough to keep me going^_^ I sipped gingerale and sucked on ginger candy a lot. That kept my eyes open and the nausea away for the most part.
Now, I'm in the "can't sleep at night" stage and it's not so fun either. Maybe the first trimester is to prepare us for the second? You're part of the pg crew now and we're here for ya.

I worked for a small accounting firm once and when I was feeling poorly or my kids were sick I could work from home. I did it one of two ways. Used a blank organizer to get things together so when I got to back to work it was 5 secs and then over. Then when we figured out why I couldn't get the program loaded and I fixed my computer then I backed up the specific clients I would take home. I would try to get the easy ones for home so it was mostly data entry and not lots of calling for info. I had a steno to make notes and could sit back periodically to rest when needed. I usually still got 8 hrs in, but would wake up early or stay up late.

I worked for a chiropractor during my first pregnancy, and I kept snacks around to stay awake. Cheese and crackers or an apple usually worked. If all else fails, try a few junior mints. That usually helped, and sometimes even took the edge of nasuea! Sugar isn't the best thing to use to stay awake, but you do what you have to! Oh, sometimes sipping OJ was enough of an energy boost too.

I tend to get up and go get a drink.

I'm at 21 wks now and i am still sleepy all the time. i basically just get through the day and then go home and sleep without feeling guilty about letting the cleaning and cooking go

I've been super-duper tired lately. I think my hubby is starting to think I'm lazy, but oh well! I'm storing up for those first days when I won't be able to sleep through the night... :)

that's why i don't mind sleeping as and when i can. i figure that in another 19 weeks i will be awake alot and if i go into that majorly tired i'm not going to survive it lol

Thanks for all your suggestions. I laid around all day Sat, so maybe I'll be able to survive this Monday!!

I have a hard time going home and resting in the afternoons. There are soo many things that need to be done. I feel guilty for not cleaning, cooking, and doing laundry. UGH!

Hope it will pass soon! Maybe I'll be the lucky one that gets the huge burst of energy in the 2nd trimester!
I can dream, right?

its good that you got the rest.

I feel soooooo much better in this trimester but the tiredness just won't go.

Don't feel guilty about the washing and cooking etc.
I tend to have days when i get home from work and i clean up the kitchen and clean the bathroom etc but i still won't do more than that because it wipes me out.

My H is pretty good about me putting the washing on and then he'll take it out and hang it on the clothes horse

My hubby is usually really good about helping me around the house, but he has just started his own business. Soo, he works his regular 40 hrs at his day job, then another 15-20 hours for his company. He is tired when he gets home, which is usually late!

When he does laundry, I have to re do it anyway. He forgets it in the wash, so the clothes stink! UGH! He thinks if you put enough dryer sheets in with them, it will be fine! GROSS!!!!

Wow - that's a lot of hours.

lol - men just don't think at times. My H will tell me he's going to empty the washing machine and 2 hours later it's still there cos he's forgotten. thankfully things don't start to smell in ours for around 4 or 5 hours.

It should get better for you.
Just decide what really needs to be done each day and do the smallest amount that you can so you don't wear yourself out. You should get to a point where you can do more.

that's good that they are understanding.

My H is an accountant lol. He works for quite a big firm in England and he's just had two of his staff on maternity leave - i don't know how the two girls coped with such a demanding job. My job isn't demanding at all so i've been able to muddle my way through when i've felt really bad
