In January will turn 40, making plans now possibly for a ski trip. How did you celebrate your 40th?

Trying to make arrangements to get back home after an ex-girlfriend drove my car into a ditch while we were camping in the U.P. of Michigan. I lived near Detroit at the time.

I bought myself a guitar and challenged myself that I'd be playing it by the time I'm 50.

Not doing well with it at all
Very nice challange

I'm sorry, I know its something you won't forget. I've had those birthdays.

I met my now wife in person for the first time on the weekend of my 40th birthday. We had been chatting only for a while, but I lived in Newcastle, Australia and she lived in Auckland, New Zealand and my birthday party in Melbourne (shared with another friend who also turned 40 that same week) was the first time we met.

We've now been married for 7 months and I've moved to New Zealand to be with her and the kids:) So in my eyes my 40th will also be a positive experience!

Hubby arranged a surprise weekend away at a lovely hotel - only in next town and we took the kids. Hotel had lovely pool, jacuzzi/spa and he booked me in for massage etc. Fabulous time was had by all.

Also went away (to Centre Parcs) with all my girlfriends - we were all 40 in same year so there were 6 of us - spent time in the Spa, swimming, walking, cycling, and a lot of laughing.....

As an aside....my girlfriends and I had promised ourselves we'd always find a way of celebrating our 40th's together (we've been friends since High School, some of our group have been friends even longer than that).. Sadly one of us didn't make it, she died at 38 so that 40th year was tinged with sadness, but going away together made all the difference. It was quite the celebration and it brought us closer together.
