Hey,

I should be in possession of the new PSP 3000 this weekend.

I was wondering if any of you had any "must have" game recommendations.

Just as a note, I'm keen on RPGs, Strategies, and Action games. Not so much into the sports.

Thanks

The Metal Gear Acids are pretty good, even if the learning curve is rather steep. Playing through the first will make picking up the second a lot easier, as well as making it better because of the problems they fixed.

I really liked the first Legend of Heroes...the plot was just really interesting to me and I actually cared about the characters. Combat was kind of eh, but passable.

Final Fantasy Tactics is all right, but again with that learning curve...holy cow the prologue chapters are HARD.

I haven't really played much else that's noteworthy except GTA Liberty City, which I honestly wouldn't recommend for many reasons.

Ummm... Monster Hunter 2?

I see a lot of people playing that, as well as the new Phantasy Star game and the new Macross: Frontier game. They all look fun! I'm pretty sure Monster Hunter 2 and Phantasy Star are available in North America, or at least will be soon. Macross will only ever be available in Japan, since their company doesn't have the rights to the Macross name in North America. The Japanese game will work on a North American PSP if you're interested.

Will I need to brush up on my Japanese in order to play it? :)
Probably.

Seriously, it's mostly an action game. You can earn upgrades and things, which are all written and explained in Japanese. Basically, you can have fun with it without needing to understand what's going on, but if you want the full experience, you should probably know the language. Depends what you're looking for I guess.

I have the Macross game on the PS2, which is in Japanese(I don't understand it enough to get any meaning from the story bits), but it's still a lot of fun.

There was a spate of vaguely decent games (decent in that they're still spinoffs of series that are well-established on other consoles, but still, usually better than most PSP games) out recently. I'd recommend Silent Hill: Origins, God of War: Chains of Olympus, GTA Liberty City Stories (Vice City stories is good too but the PSP really struggles with it). The Lego Star Wars/Indy/Batman games are all out on PSP, all good fun mobile games. There's also Metal Gear Portable Ops which is not too bad if you don't fancy the turn-based MG Acid series. Ooh, and Loco Roco is a genius puzzle game.

Heard rumors of a Jean D' Arc game selling in America for it. (Joan Of Arc) Combat system in the previews looked similar to Final Fantasy Tactics combat system. But with more graphics, and a high video quality (for the PSP) storyline

Wow, blast from the past!

Here are the games that I ended up getting (in order of preference)

Patapon (Pata Pata Pata Pon.... FEEEVAAAAAHHHH!!!!)
Final Fantasy: Crisis Core
Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters
Jeanne D'arc

I'd like to get some more, but I can't justify getting more games without first completing at least one of the games that I currently have. I think I'm close to finishing Patapon.

I also recommend Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for the PSP and Resistance Retribution. I had a blast with both games. Resistance gave me an easier fight amongst the two games. I'm a casual shooter gamer so I'm still exploring more of the shooter genre. The Force Unleashed is cool for the storyline and different force powers you can do to the enemies. I've beaten Force Unleashed like 5 times and I'm currently beating Resistance for the second time without cheats. First time I beat it I used someone else's save file from gamefaqs. I just wanted to see all of the guns and what kind of damage they can do.
