  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

do all the songs you write have to be worship songs...
I imagine some would disagree with me.... but I personally don't think so. Is 'Twinkle, twinkle, little star' a bad song? It is not to or about God... but it does impart a sense of awe and wonder about the universe which can lead children to inquire about the Creator. Or what about the 'ABC' song? It's useful. I don't know that I can say much more about it than that... but is it bad to put something to music to help children learn? And what about instrumental music? It doesn't even have words.... so who really knows what any given song is about.... but it's beautiful to listen to and I believe it can be used to worship God.

I think in the end you just need to make sure you keep your 'genres' straight. What I mean is... don't write a song about your girlfriend and then try to pass it off as a worship song. That'd be crazy.

if your writing a song and its not to or about god but more about something else that might be going on in your life or how your feeling
I'd encourage you to think about how your current feelings relate to your walk with God... and then write a song about that. "I'm sad.... but God is watching out for me" is far more interesting and uplifting than just "I'm sad".
