This is a song I shouldn't listen to. It's about mental illness - but I also get the feeling it's about a person(perhaps a teenager) who lost a parent and is hearing conflicting voices (repeated in his head) on how to deal with it from religious as well as secular and his own inner battles. Full of doubt and confusion - he's not sure which voices to listen to. One also gets the impression that the Voice speaking in his head may be his own, but he's not sure. Some of the religious references - for instance - "I guess Easter's never comming, I'll just wait inside my head" - are symbolic - this one probably meaning that the dead loved one is not comming back from the dead(within the context I'm pretty sure it means that).

Anyway...this song gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it, yet it's one of my favourites:

Lyrics: DREAM THEATER - II. VOICES LYRICS
