I walked in my son's room the today and see him punching himself in the crotch. I asked him what he was doing and he told me it was the only way to make "it" go away. Is it ok for him to be doing that or should I make him stop?

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Although this might sound like a silly question ... boys can get erections at very young ages. If he's a preteen, you need to explain to him that this is a natural part of how his body functions, but it's not natural to hit yourself. If he's a teen, then you might want to get him professional help. Good luck.

I'm going to assume that he is young.... and yes, he was probably having an erection. He needs a matter of fact conversation, probably with his dad, to discuss the natural functions of his body. (I had a friend whose son was terrified that he had somehow broken his body...)

Another possibility might be that he's having delusions that something is living inside him. If that's the case, then it's time for a professional psychiatrist. Definitly rule out reactions to an erection first, though.
