This is a slightly modified version of something I wrote for another forum last month, but the thought itself still applies. I wasn't sure where to put it, so I just stuck it here. Anyway, here it is:

“I know the plans I have for you, Says God. Plans for good things not disaster, plans to give you a future and hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

I was just thinking about my future and what comes after high school and I just didn’t know what I wanted to do or what path I should take, and even though I need to figure things out and make decisions, I know that things will work out in the end. It’s just comforting to know that there is hope and not disaster. Also, my dad quit his job recently and it’s not like it was a brash decision; it was quit or get fired by his sexist boss. And it seems like on top of that, so many other things are going wrong. But in the midst of all this, there is God with his plan. I don’t know how it will work out or how fast, but I know that I can relax about everything because it will work out. Life is not over because of hard times; it’s given meaning through imperfection. Let go of the hard times and trust in God.

Even if you don’t believe in God, there is a path for you. You might not believe it involves any planning of a higher being, but that doesn’t mean you can’t see the hope that exists; it doesn’t take the belief in God to know that life can work out even when it doesn’t seem to be. So, whether or not you believe in God, just know that no mater where life seems to be going, there will always be opportunities of hope and goodness. Like I said before: life isn’t over because of hard times.

Peace to all,

Sarah

Another thought for the day:

"Hold on, Let go!"

This is the answer to most of life’s situations. Life is full of disappointments and fulfillments. What we have to learn to do in life is recognize these things and analyze what it is that is important and what is worth holding on to and let go of what is not. You need to “either Hold On - to God, to each other, to the truth - or Let Go, of your expectations, fears or anything that keeps your from proximity to God and to freedom. Sometimes the answer is do both” (freedomfriends.org question number 5).

Don’t get the wrong idea and think that this is only meant for believers. Just because the quotation I used mentions God, does not mean that non-believers cannot apply it to their lives. If you’re not going to apply this to your life for God, do it for yourself, because holding onto what’s good and letting go of what’s bad can greatly increase the quality of life. So, hold on to the things that are dear to your heart and let go of the things that separate you from peace and love.

That was very well written, and is very encouraging! I am a third year college student and as I am not totally sure what I am going to do with my life, I know that God will show me the way, and I know whatever I do with my life for a career it will be God's plan... and even when you think you have it figured out, you might not. I just recently changed my major from political science to social work and although I still plan to get my degree in social work, I am thinking of going to seminary and getting my masters in social work and divinity. Because God might be pulling me in another direction within the realm of social work, I don't know. Crazy!

God bless.

:) I'm glad my thoughts are helpful and encouraging to some. I wrote that in February and now in April, I don't feel like things are going so wrong. My dad got a decent job, and life seems to be smoothing out a bit more. After turning to God last summer for the first time, I don't see how I could ever turn away :).
