Sometimes I don't feel saved,

I feel this way constantly, but then I wonder, what is it supposed to feel like? I am finding that all of the beating my head against a wall that I am doing is really driving me further and further away.

Maybe I need to stop expecting my Christianity to retain that "new car smell"?

It is more than a feeling. Right now I have the knowledge of my salvation but I don't feel a closeness to God but that doesn't mean He isn't there with me. I think this whole feeling issue is part of why we are to love with body mind and soul.

As the others said, Christianity is not about feeling (though warm and fuzzy feelings are nice and reassuring).
One of the main parts of salvation is trusting God that he has saved you. So, you have to trust him regardless of your feelings.
Also, I think it would help you to be aware of God's presence all around you. Look for God everywhere you go. Not only in prayer and scripture, but in sunsets, smiles, snow, Christmas lights, sushi, books, setting by a warm fire, listening to music, etc. God is everywhere looking at us, all we have to do is look at Him.

But if you look at the bible, you have two facettes: those who call apon God are saved, and those who DO God's words are saved. (Not every one who says "Lord Lord" etc.)

As for me, I beg God to change me so that I'd be the type of person who does what he says (Isaiah chapter 68 and the sermons on the mount).

From an NDE perspective: we are saved if we recognize in God this idea of love that we have stroven for, or if we see ourselves as worthy of being saved, or if we have done acts of love, or even just calling out to God or to Jesus.

So for me, untill I die, I have this double sided coin: pleading to God and knowing I have to trust him to do the impossible, and searching to do what is right and loving, and not to be tied down by obsessions.

I do not consider myself saved, untill the day I die and then I'll find out. So I too see it as a process, not something to bost certainty. Unless you want to say that we are all saved, and we just have to realize it.

Jesus said that not everyone who says Lord Lord knows Him. He also says the work God requires, is to believe in the One He has sent. By the way, since I started this thread, I feel that God's been assuring me of my salvation. It's amazing how fickle, feelings can be.

We walk by faith and not by sight. Don't be afraid sweetie, Jesus paid the ultimate price. He didn't feel like being nailed to a tree, His beard ripped out and a cat of nine tails drug across his back over and over and over until you couldn't even recognize Him. But He did it anyway. Don't be afraid.

As a theistic universalist, I don't worry about not being "saved". I don't have a fear of hell fire torment or anything like that. In fact, I believe, based on my reading of the New Testament (especially the epistles of Paul), the work of the Patristic Fathers, the theologies of Schleiermacher, Tillich, Bulgakov, Barth, and Bonhoeffer - and there are many others - that God is right now reconciling this sinful world back to Himself through the redemptive work of Christ. He is NOT therefore out to deceive you concerning your salvation. If you have placed your trust in Jesus Christ, then you are indeed on that path back to the Father. You may falter at times, falling flat on your face before Love Itself, but fear not!!! The essence of God's being is Love; He is the Hound of Heaven Who will eternally seek for a relationship with you.

i know i'm not saved because i'm still alive and i await for the holy judgement of God. i have faith that with a God who wants all to be reconciled under the saving knowledge of Christ will get His Will done, but i still know right now, i am not saved because the judgement has not been made yet for my eternal soul, but all that matters to me is i pray/have faith that i'm on the path of salvation for the here and now.

Im the same. One of the things that helps me is looking at my kids, i know that i love them so much that i would do anything to help them, i would fight any battle and climb or crawl through anything to protect my kids. I know that im a child of my Heavenly Father and i know that he loves me and would do the same for me. I know im not worthy of my Heavenly Fathers love but he loves me anyway, just like how i love the wonderful kids he blessed me with, no matter what.

Assume that is ones destiny and that God deliberately has orchestrated our Karma to be otherwise.

If we get what we deserve, we are all screwwed. If we get what Christ has freely given we are all saved. Despite feelings.

This is the hardest and simplest truth, IMO.

Sometimes I feel compelled to listen to the people who say, "Believe THIS, or you will not be saved." I feel compelled because there is an element of safety there; there are other people who accept you and reassure you that you are saved.

But to believe these things out of fear, I think, is a mistake. You should walk in God's ways to the best of your understanding, and you should walk in His ways not out of fear of hell, but out of LOVE for the Father.
