  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It's available for free on line.

Anyway, If you're into a science or engineering background you'll enjoy it. Lots of cool stuff in that domain. On the other hand, the characterization is kind of weak. Still a lot of fun to read, but don't expect a lot of character development or deep insight into the nature of what it is to be human or anything like that. It's light to medium hard science fiction, if that makes any sense.
I disagree. The book shows us in concrete form, the basis and validation of objective morality. If I have time later today I'll elaborate but I'm working right now.

Well I don't know. When I read or rather listened to the book, I pictured the main character as Robert Mitchum. I hadn't thought about who should play him today if they made a movie. Didn't know they were making one. I'd probably pick Matthew McConaughey. He was great in Interstellar.
Mitchum ! Haven't heard that name in awhile :) Well hopefully the movie will be all you hope it to be :)

I see. You would prefer not to read a book that portrays man as heroic and celebrates reason and science.
Yes, I´d prefer to read books about other stuff.
These are the Objectivist themes I am speaking of. It's your loss.
So many books, so little time. Losses are inevitable. :)

I haven't read the novel, but the movie is awesome! The Martian is the best movie I've seen in many years.
This is good to hear. I'm going to try to see it at the weekend.

After Alien and Bladerunner, I always had a high opinion of Ridley Scott doing SciFi, but then Prometheus happened. Glad to hear he's back on form.

Yes, he made up for Prometheus in my eyes.
