You know, it's been a looooong time since I've seen a fellowship thread on here. So I thought I'd try and start one. Something we can all agree on, to get away from the vitriol being spewed in other threads.

So... list one thing you REALLY like about God's creation. And preferably stay away from "controversial" things. Use your common sense... things like 'the richness of the fossil record' or 'how young it is' are out, please. Just things we can agree are likeable, and why.

I'll start.

I really like deciduous trees mixed in with pine trees, so that while one changes color in the fall the other is staying green, which looks really beautiful. More beautiful than only ones in mid-color-change with no green left in sight.

Crawfish kind of stole mine.

I recall peering through my telescope on spring night in my backyard and locating the two galaxies M81 and M82 within the same field of view. Two galaxies 12 million light years away - one feels small. Tracking through the area of Virgo and seeing puff after puff of galaxies is also quite beautiful, but the former was a real moment of beauty.

Great idea!

The archerfish - who can shoot a water jet to catch a bug.

The basilisk (the real one) which runs on water

the sandfish - a lizard that swims under the surface of the sand

That flying snake.

echolocation

the ability of some migratory birds to see the earth's magnetic field thorugh specialized cone cells in their eyes - how cool would that be, to be able to look across the sky and see which direction is north?

hey, eyes themselves.

flight. No more words needed.

antibiotic plants

analgesic plants

chocolate plants

better stop.

New England is great for that:

The English language, and the wonderful things that can be done with it:

Together, we will share what’s yet to be.
There is no time, but time that’s yet to share.
My Love, live long and let it be with me.

I lost my way in search of Liberty,
Then found my way; with you, it’s always there.
Together, we will share what’s yet to be.

Warm summer nights Five Star alone just we,
Fresh lawns with sweet mow in the fragrant air.
My Love, live long and let it be with me.

You, sleeping as I drive, so close to me,
The sweet curve of your cheek , your touseled hair.
Together, we will share what’s yet to be.

My precious one, you taught me how to see
The stirring in my heart, and how to care.
My love, live long and let it be with me.

Whatever troubles we do not foresee,
They’ll be no worse than you and I can bear.
Together we will share what’s yet to be.
My Love, live long, and let it be with me.

The English language, and the wonderful things that can be done with it:
I don't write (except professionally), but I do read.

The house was quiet and the world was calm.
The reader became the book; and summer night

Was like the conscious being of the book.
The house was quiet and the world was calm.

The words were spoken as if there was no book,
Except that the reader leaned above the page,

Wanted to lean, wanted much to be
The scholar to whom his book is true, to whom

The summer night is like a perfection of thought.
The house was quiet because it had to be.

The quiet was part of the meaning, part of the mind:
The access of perfection to the page.

And the world was calm. The truth in a calm world,
In which there is no other meaning, itself

Is calm, itself is summer and night, itself
Is the reader leaning late and reading there.

I found this little guy at a small lake in Fort Worth. I think he's one of the most beautiful of God's birds. (Green Heron)
Nice picture. One of the things I lack is a fast, long lens. Oh well -- I can't have everything, and it wouldn't be good for me if I could.

How do you like gimp, by the way?
