Thinking along prophetic lines. We know earth n sea. WHAT is the significance of the earth being made mention first? Chronological order? You know why the second is mentioned. Is this to back up the one making an image of the other? Does this simple phrase show origin? I think so.

As I'm lead to understand, the heavens are figurative of the sanctuary of the covenant (the throne) and the earth figurative of the dominion of the covenant (the footstool), beyond which covenant boundary is found the sea, which is figurative of those outside of the covenant. Thus this is saying, "Woe to them within the covenant dominion, and them outside!" Or "Woe to both the unrepentant churches, and the unbelievers!" This is because they are about to face the "hour of trial" which "comes upon the whole earth" and the words of Christ to the angels of the seven churches is about to come to pass.

In Revelation 10:2 we see the same imagery being used and we understand this verse to denote the whole earth, not just a part.

Mr. Hyperspace may be correct in his interpretation... I would like more Biblical evidence for his reasonings though.

I don't know if the 'new world' can still be considered the earth (wilderness) considering the population density. Could be refering to the inhabitated as well as the uninhabitated parts of the earth...

As far as where we are in the stream of time, I think the new world still qualifies as it's really beginning to speak in legislation .It could , however denote sparsely populated areas as being where satan attacks first and hardest- the remnant church, followed by the next phase. I too don't discredit JH on his take either. The devil makes his moves count. Rev does show that the "earth" sets the stage and makes this all possible and vast deception of the masses gives him free reign to get the ball rolling, unhindered.

Very interesting thought. We are told that the "image to/of the beast" will be the greatest for God's people. She did not say the mark will be because we know that the mark will be imposed and what it is. But the image has always been an obscure teaching, yet explained very well. We are told that when apostate protestantism joins hands across the gulf and uses civil powers to enact moral legislation this is the image of the beast. The inhabiters of earth (USA) will be greatly deceived by this image being set up, but especially will the SDA denomination be deceived by it because they are following their pastors and denominational leaders instead of studying the scriptures to understand these things. Jesus said over and over "be not deceived". If we do not have our noses in the word of God now, through this time of the image being set up, and every wind of doctrine blowing at hurricane force, we will be lost. Now is the time when there are so many false teachings out there. We can find a translation to say anything we want to hear and call it "the Word of God". There are more false teachings today then there was during the dark ages when people lived in pure ignorance imposed by the powers that were at that time.

Made Sunday the official day of worship- √ , supported a pagan-christian worship principal - √, influenced govt. to dictate how, where & when one should worship- √ , silenced opposition with govt force- √, persecuted Sabbath keepers- √, pitted a particular side against another in revolutions - √ , overthrew entire governments for monetary gain - √, lived lavishly while others starved - √, constantly showed public feats of charity -√ , got its seat, power and authority from the dragon (satan)- √ , NEVER made its intentions secret NOR ever recanted on any matter- √ Have I missed anything?

Oh, yeah- Said that it's authority was higher than God's and that scripture took second place to its doctrines. Called the leader a diety- God on earth- infallible -CHECK
