  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I realize that many of you don't know me as I'm new to the forum. I wanted to share something personal and something all of you know about. Its in reference to The Passion.

I am originally from Barcelona Spain. Though many people believe Spain and Italy are deeply religious countries, which they are in respect to other European nations, Christianity is in decay and mostly older people go to Mass. I, as a teenager loved the Lord and felt my calling was to the film industry, where I wanted to make Christian films.

Once I became of age, I moved to N.Y. and began to make my rounds at film schools in the city. As any filmmaker knows, NYU is the place to go, or so I thought when I was naive. I wrote a short story titled "Genitum Non Factum" about the atrocities commited by fascists and "reds" alike to clergy and laypeople during the Spanish Civil War. It was a simple story set during the late 30's amist a rise in European Fascism and Communism, two great threats to Christianity.

My grades were up to par, but I was turned down everytime because of the content of my story, not so much the writing itself.

Eventually, years later after meeting people, going to the places I was to go, and getting a close look at the industry, I produced my first short which was submitted to Sundance, etc.

I have become convinced that Hollywood is a place to closet your views and not let anyone know who you are without the risk of losing your career. I became disgusted with the industry so much so that now, at the age of 29, I don't know what to do with my life.

The reason I support Mel's "Passion" is because I know what he is doing and what he risks losing. I realize what he is up against all because he wants to honor God they way I did. Of course, his content is the most important thing. I too want to see what Christ went through and become transformed. That is the power and influence of motion pictures, the ability to move.

Please support this film, it will also open doors for Christians in the industry who are tired of hiding. For Christians who want to make movies about their faith.

Thanks for reading, thanks for listening.

You brother in Christ,

Rich

Rich thank you so much for sharing that. I am glad you understand what Mel is doing and I pray that other people will rise up and support him in the same way. Everyday more and more people turn against him. I am seeing dozens of Christians speak out against him now! I am so upset about that. He counted on US to stand by him! He counted on us and many are letting him down. It wasn't enough that other groups had to condemn him but now his own Christian family?! It's just horrible!

This event could be a turning point against the secular culture in this country and I for one plan to attend the movie. This is a time to stand united regardless of denomination and answer the call to spread the Good News of Christ's ressurection by supporting this movie.

Peace!

Dear Rich,
Thank you so much for sharing a small part of your life with us! I am very much looking forward to seeing the Passion. I have already ordered tickets for myself, my family and and some friends that want to go. I support Mel's mission to bring Jesus to the world 100 percent....

What Mel is doing sort of reminds me of when Paul confronts Peter about the Gentiles: (paraphrase here). "Are you keeping Jesus to yourself? Is he YOUR Jesus? Or is He the Jesus of the World?"
