I saw a post today of a woman who was in deep distress. I wanted to say something to her, because I can relate from my experience. But I can't, I can't do anything but watch. However I can PM her, so what difference does it make?

If I can still reach her and talk to her with the ideas you see in my threads, shouldn't you be more concerned about that.

Well for that thread it was about personal problems, than theological problems. I guess it make sense to restrict non Christian from some forums. Even the bible says that, kinda

2 Peter 2:13

Why not let us nonzees romp around more topics, just think what Jesus would do.

the simple answer is that even personal problems always have a theological root to them. So letting
someone in who comes by with a lawnmower to chop off what they can see of the weeds will not take care of the roots. And if you leave the roots there those stubborn roots will surely regrow more leaves, and then the same problems will return.

It's not up to you or me to do that, only the person in question can resolve their own problems. Even if we help along the way.

You are right . . . if I understand you correctly > if you are not allowed to share in a forum, still you can in private share what you please . . . and no one else in the forums will be able to know what you say.

So, yes, it could be like if parents say don't talk about that around us, so you go off alone and the parents then do not know what you say, and can not give their input which could be quite valuable.

But if you are not really an expert on the subject . . . this is a problem if you go into private.

What is intended, I think, is we have places for Christians only, because we want what the Bible says and what it means to be shared in such places. It is meant to help make sure the person gets scriptural comments, and not only discussion with more than one side to things.

But you can start a thread about the subject as a general topic, in certain other places in Christian forums. And you could invite the person there; then he or she can see what others say about what you say

And, even if Christians do not agree with all you give, you could be bringing up issues which we do need to deal with

But there is specialization of forums . . . some mainly for scriptural help, others for discussion and debate. So, you can make good use of each one.

Hi.....

I have studied the life and mission of Jesus for many many years, but I'm still learning, and cannot claim to be a Christian. Sadly, that means that here on this forum I cannot take part in Historical Jesus threads.

But I expect that there are many non-Christian newcomers who just tick the Christian 'yes' box and have access to all.

I will keep looking in once a day, but I do tend to visit the more open web sites more regularly, because I learn more at those.....

Yes..... on a private forum I guess it is OK to restrict freedom of speech, but where I live to restrict a person in any way because of their gender, religion, creed, race, colour, nationality, age, disability, marital status, sexuality etc is unlawful, and in many cases criminal.

If I can still reach her and talk to her with the ideas you see in my threads, shouldn't you be more concerned about that.

Perhaps the mods, site owner and staff should be as there could be some liability if someone uses this site to give dangerous advice to another. For example, we do get people on the prayer wall using language that they want to take their own lives. The site policy is to just pray and encourage but report such posts as a potential suicide situation. When that happens the staff here helps as best they can to get that person to a live professional locally.

Why not let us nonzees romp around more topics, just think what Jesus would do.

I think that has been done in the past, and things get out of hand. Meaning, the site becomes "Christian Grievances" and stops being a site where Christians come to fellowship with others. Think of it this way. Almost every church welcomes visitors who are non-church members. That is usually for Evangelicals the 11am Bible/sermon time. All are welcome. However, non-church members would not be invited to the Lord's Supper earlier in the morning and the evening Bible study/fellowship.

CF is set up in much the same way. There is an open area, like here, and an outreach area which allows non-Christians to post, debate etc.

This thing were Christians call people trolls, you've got to put your foot down on that.

I hope that is not the case where someone called you or others trolls. If they do you can report such posts.

I know frequenting a Texas Rangers chat site, we sometimes get posters from other teams and some are polite and some violate the rules by disrupting the threads and using insults. The latter are usually called 'trolls' at that site. And for good cause.

Hello.....
Is there not a Samaritan type section on this forum where trained persons can communicate with possible suicides?

The very first rule is that 'advice is never given', or it was when I trained to become a Samaritan.

Trainees learn to ask questions, quite often very direct questions.... training courses lasted three months, I seem to remember. But I can tell you that Samaritans were not selected as a result of their religions or faiths.

Hmm, I have had an extremely long religious background, and was a believer for half of my 40 years of life.

I'd like to talk semantics and religion, do you know where I can do that.

There is. I did not want to speak for the site staff and moderators.
