I used to smoke, and when I became a Christian I asked God to give me the strength to quit and He did. It had been a big bone of contention between my wife and I for ages, and the Lord pressed it on my heart to quit, for her sake.

Is it a sin? I don't know. If it hurts others, I would say yes. The same with drinking.

Howdy there my friend.

In a word, yes.

Please permit a moment for me to explain.

For smoking, there are two reasons why you shouldn't: 1) Your body is supposed to be a temple for God (1 Cor 3:16). Needless to say, smoking has harmful effects on the body; 2) Smoking is an addiction. The problem with addictions is that you put that substance before God. Cigarettes cannot cure what ails you, only God can.

Now that I've said all that, let me try and remove the plank from my eye. In a sense, I understand your addiction. I have a strong addiction to chocolate. One might think it's easy to break, but then one would be wrong. So, my friend, I will be praying for you.

Drinking, I believe, isn't as clear cut. Getting drunk would definitely be a sin. Drinking to help relax you I think would be a sin as well...it's that whole "putting something before God" thing. On the other hand, if you have a drink because you actually like the taste and you only have one can or bottle or glass, that could very well be a different story.

Hope my ramblings help ya!

Ok... would i still be allowed into heaven even thought i still was drinking after i get baptised and saved???

Baptism doesn't lead to heaven. By accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior does lead to heaven. Now, whether or not you will go there I have no idea. I don't know your heart. However, it is my belief that someone who is truly saved is also someone who repents of their sins and actively works changing their habits. If you are saved, but you are still trapped by your sin, then yes, you will still go to heaven. If you aren't saved, then it doesn't matter if you are trapped by the sin of drinking or not.

Of course! :prayer:

My sister used to be a smoker. She got hold of a book that helped her break the habit (I'm sure along with prayer). If you are interested, then I'll see if I can find it for you.

Good luck my friend!

Jesus said there was no sin that was unforgivable. He died for every sin, not just the ones we do before we are saved, or the ones we can easily give up, but EVERY SINGLE ONE.

So, even if it is sin to smoke or drink, those sins are covered by the blood of Christ, and they cannot keep you out of heaven.

However, in my opinion, smoking and drinking are unhealthy, but not specifically forbidden in the law, therefore they are not sin.

I'm going to agree with LL. While I don't condone smoking or drinking, it's hard to say it is a sin. If it is a sin because it harms the body, then so is drinking soda, diet or regular. Diet has aspertame, while regular is so full of syrup. However, smoking does effect those around you, so I would lean toward smoking as a sin more than drinking if they were. If it is a personal conviction for you to stop, then do so. It seems like God is speaking to you on the subject anyway. I will be praying for you. I know its not easy to quit. My wife is trying to quit and its been hard, just keep trying.

I've been known to partake of a beverage in the past, but the only reason I don't regularly is because of the image that it portrays in society.
