Hey Folks, I just thought I'd drop by--again--and hand off this nifty little video I found, one made by that science gal from The Big Bang Theory (yes, Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy Farrah Fowler). She has some interesting things to say which seem to reflect in a substantial way---and also in what I'd count as a philosophical kind of way---my own feelings about science and religion.

Sure, sure. I know. She's not a Christian! And sure, she's actually a brilliant person in real life when offset and not in front of the sitcom camera. But, hey! I like what she has to say (even if I'd add some "come to Jesus" things in there as well, if I could). Her message is short, but it's meaningful. So, if you want, take a quick listen to what Mayim shares and make whatever comments you want to make ....

Hi Brinny,

Maybe Mayim is "hostile" to Christianity being that she's Jewish (or maybe she's not hostile, just concerned for the sake of justice), but I'm only focusing on the philosophical content that she is actually sharing in the video. I'm not presenting her video as a platform for The Christian Faith. Rather, I'm presenting it as a thoughtful interlude to bigger and better things. You may want to keep in mind that there is a reason I've said what I've said in the OP. And as a Christian Philosopher, I don't feel enclosed by false evangelical senses of propriety. I think people should be thinking about their whole existence as it is in this universe, without the tendency to hole up in our mental shells and attempt to only take the world on our terms---because the universe and its Creator don't interact with us on our terms.

Yes, there was coverage of Mayim going into a Christian place of business and they were playing Christian songs over the intercom (it might've been around Christmas, i don't remember) and raise a ruckus and then some.

Well, if you read my OP, what might I be alluding to? I did give mention that if I "could" add something to what she says, that "something" would represent my view of life, the world, ... of God.

In philosophy, Brinny, many things, not just the Bible, can be used for stepping-stones of thought, some of which might bring us to look further outside ourselves, and maybe, hopefully, look ultimately to Christ.

Keep in mind, this is the Christian Apologetics section, not the Christian Theology forum or the Christian Apologetics Center of CF, where nothing but biblically centered theology is discussed. Here, we're trying to dig at the roots of faith so that we can bolster not only or own faith, but invite those who are either counter to it or are struggling with it to see it in a better light.

A brief Google search does not yield any results. I did find that she starred in a Christmas movie on Lifetime, but nothing about going into a Christian place of business and raising a fuss. Care to shed some light on this?

I really wouldn't say she raised a ruckus. She did speak with the manager about the music, and upon the manager's replay stated she didn't want to shop there.

No ruckus or no YouTube viral video moment. Just a conversation with the manager and a comment over the music being played. The only original source for any of this is Mayim's site. Any other coverage about things that reportedly happened are merely hearsay.

Well, for you, this wouldn't be something you need, now would it? Although, if you were, say, an evangelical who holds unerringly to a 6-day literal creation, then I'd say you might be in need of some more expansive considerations about the world.

It was a lot of vitriol and drama from what i remember. In addition she knew it was a "Christian" place of business already.

Mayim Bialik is known for her support of and stand for Israel, and her stand for religious liberty and the expression of it. Her reaction because this crafts store was playing a Christian song, was hypocritical, to say the least.

Ok. But so what? Does any of that diminish the things she says in the video? The point here is that she isn't exactly an atheist, not like a number of people are here who go in and out of the swinging door of Christian faith. And that's what I'd like for us to concentrate upon.

BUT, if you think that in order to listen to a fellow human being that he or she has to be not only Christian, but a particular kind of Christian, then I can't stop you from doing that. And in that case, please proceed to share your thoughts on Mayim if you think that it is important to the rest of the what she has to say.

Not sure what your point is, but it gives some insight as to why i would not consider any of her views as credible.
