  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

could it just, possibly,be that there was or is a flower that bloomed or blooms unseen and unknown and
wasted/wastes its sweetness on the desrt air - twinc

title correction = somehow,somewhere,somewhen - twinc

Poetry?

In reality the most obvious purpose of pretty flowers is to attract insects to spread their pollen.

But if you just like the phrase about how beautiful and fleeting human life is, then that's fine too.

seriously though although no one,it seems dares or cares to answer so I ask and also answer - every spectacle implies the existence of a spectator,so who is this mystery spectator that hides beneath the world show for the world is not one's own personal mental creation,a position demonstrably absurd for we cannot form new stars or whole cities by voluntary exercise or fancy - these existed before we appeared in the world and will probably continue to do so after we are gone, whereas our imagined stars and cities will vanish in a few moments - whilst it must be rigidly maintained that every formed physical thing which exists must exist as a thought,we must not fall into the profound error which regards these thoughts as originating in the finite mind of a particular individual - every object is an idea ; it is an idea present to man's mind;but it is not created by man's individual and independant mind.He merely paticipates in it.For when we enquire more deeply we find that his individual mind is ultimately part of a universal mind - an idea without a mind to which it belongs is inconceivable[Brunton] - more later - twinc

What?

every spectacle implies the existence of a spectator,so who is this mystery spectator that hides beneath the world show for the world is not one's own personal mental creation,a position demonstrably absurd for we cannot form new stars or whole cities by voluntary exercise or fancy

What?

these existed before we appeared in the world and will probably continue to do so after we are gone, whereas our imagined stars and cities will vanish in a few moments

What?

whilst it must be rigidly maintained that every formed physical thing which exists must exist as a thought

What?

He merely paticipates in it.For when we enquire more deeply we find that his individual mind is ultimately part of a universal mind - an idea without a mind to which it belongs is inconceivable[Brunton] - more later

What does this have to do with evolution? What does this word salad have to do with ANYTHING?

There was a Man Who walked the earth over 2000 years ago and is more famous than all other men put together. He did more in three year's time than any other single person in history; and any imagination within any heart anywhere that holds this Man's existence on the same par as some famous writer's invention will not be able to extinguish His light. He has been written about by secular authors, and His holy name is broadcast throughout the world from the lips of friend and foe alike. The blood of His martyred children will continue to flow throughout the pages of time, and the more fortunate will be laughed at and ridiculed; but He will not be silenced.

His name is Jesus, and He lives forevermore, offering salvation to all who put their trust in Him; and soon He is coming back to take to Himself His bride, and to complete the prophecies foretold about Him.

Praise His name!

And his name was Buddha.
Buddha is an example of what we would call today a deadbeat dad.

Had Mr. Enlightened One lived in this Christian nation 100 years ago and pulled that trick, he would have probably been put in jail.

His spirit lives on in all the lovely fathers who abandon their homes, leaving mom to rear the children; then come back "enlightened" when the children happen to be grown.

His icon here is [appropriately] yellow.

I bet if Jesus and Buddha would live today, they would like each other better then many christians on their hatefilled speeches or buddhist monks in their gold plated temples.

Anyone can give a hatefilled speech.

Those are a dime a dozen and not worth the change.

the word Buddha means 'wise old man' - the big difference between Jesus Christ and all the other wise men, seers, prophets and sages through the ages is that Jesus Christ was God incarnate - twinc

Gautama was a buddha i.e. a wise[old]man - twinc
As I said, scientists would agree ... only they would prefer their own term, "Homo sapiens," over "Buddha."
