Some spring time cheer! Box turtles are hatching!

Every year I have turtles of all sorts coming into the yard to lay eggs. Now is the time that they are hatching & I got little nickel sized baby box turtles all over the yard & making their way down the drive towards the pond & river.

The pups & I are getting ready to go out & explore.

I have to be careful when the snappers come to lay eggs with my animals but it's interesting to watch.

I'm waiting for my first hummingbird right now. They usually show in May.

My mom had an outdoor terrarium my dad built and she housed 4 box turtles in them. Lots of fun. But as mom got older, developed Parkinson's and many surgeries kicked in, she had to give the turtles to a wonderful woman up north who takes in wild animals, especially turtles. Miss those little shelled guys!

I have frogs in my pool (rain-filled tarp covering the pool) and they have been mating this week. There will be many tadpoles and then I will have to move the tadpoles to the small creek behind my house. The pool will be "opened" (tarp drained, pool filled, shocked with chemicals) in a few weeks so the poor tadpoles cannot stay

You'd love our ponds Gwen. Huge tadpoles. I have been fascinated with them since I was a kid. I'm glad you will be rescuing your tadpoles!

I don't take care of them unless injured or in need of moving. I just let them migrate & start their lives.
