Some people make a good point about the secularization of modern churches today. But.....

They bemoan all the activities the church provides that may not seem close to God. But I think its important to point out that people need to relax in their spare time and if you only go to church for the services, you will be spending your spare time mostly with unbelievers. Not a good influence. Especially for younger people. So I think its vital to encourage groups to get together for all manner of activities from church. Not to replace the service of course. But to offer a recreational option for their members. And these activities rarely need much money to exist. Hiking in nature is not very expensive! Most sports aren't expensive either. We should probably strive to bring people out in nature as often as possible. It always helps us get closer to God.

It is true that the more time you spend around like minded the most comfortable you will feel in your skin. But there is always the danger that a wall will be built between you and the rest of the world where it will eventually be seen as the enemy. Not what God said to do. He set us free. He didn't isolate us. (Think those home marketing groups - or churches that demand you associate only with their own and their constant rallies, effectively selling your soul to their system). If you are content knowing the ways of the Kingdom are not man's ways and that they can counteract the harmful ways of man, you should have no trouble living among those of the world. After all it is theirs.

Unbelievers are not really a problem unless we think we can change what doesn't want to be changed. We're not as skilled as we think. Only those looking will open an ear.
