"Democrats Sour on Biden, Citing Age and Economy"

Biden appears to have been "instructed" to hide in the basement for the last few months of his campaign for president. His appearances were rife with gaffs and massive "noshow" in terms of numbers of people gathering to hear it.

So then "predictably" a lot of fuss and fury was being made in 2020 that Biden was past his prime, showing signs of aging quickly, not mentally alert etc and claims were made that the Trump economy of 2018 and 2019 could not be matched by a Biden leadership when even Democrats seemed to have been looking "for another more qualified" candidate at the start of that election year.

Fast forward to today and the NY Times article above. Surprise surprise.

"President Joe Biden is facing an alarming level of doubt from inside his own party, with 64% of Democratic voters saying they would prefer a new standard-bearer in the 2024 presidential campaign, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll, as voters nationwide have soured on his leadership, giving him a meager 33% job-approval rating."

"Widespread concerns about the economy and inflation have helped turn the national mood decidedly dark, both on Biden and the trajectory of the nation. More than three-quarters of registered voters see the United States moving in the wrong direction, a pervasive sense of pessimism that spans every corner of the country, every age range and racial group, cities, suburbs and rural areas, as well as both political parties."

"Only 13% of American voters said the nation was on the right track — the lowest point in Times polling since the depths of the financial crisis more than a decade ago"

..."more than two-thirds of independents also now disapprove of the president’s performance, and nearly half disapprove strongly...At 79, he is already the oldest president in American history, and concerns about his age ranked at the top of the list for Democratic voters who want the party to find an alternative."

That reads like a Republican campaign ad in 2020.

The good news is - this apparently surprises nobody.

Despite what he has said, I really expect Biden not to run for another term anyway.

Others find their disdain for President Biden exceeded only by their disdain for former President Trump.
Well now that is a shock that members of the DNC would not favor Trump over Biden. Give it time.

Well... look at that.. Only took three posts before "But Trump"....

Do you people think about him every day all day long? I mean really... the topic is how pathetically badly Biden is doing and the fact that even the Democrats have noticed.... and... "But Trump"

It is not "but Trump." The point is obvious. There are those willing to vote for anyone the Democrats run if the GOP candidate is Trump.

I see. Sorry that I missunderstood you.

I agree. There are those people.. both republican and democrat that would die, give up the country, move away.... before they agreed with anything "Trump"

At the helm of the country are Biden. Pelosi. Pat Leahy. All near or over 80. All around forever.
And therein lies the problem. They were around when Republicans were collaborative and collegial. Now they are obstructionists and many were even willing to steal an election and subvert democracy to keep power.
They are too timid. They have to steamroll their platform through.
I believe Kavanaugh was confirmed because Murkowski was promised bridges in Alaska. If not she got her bridges by supporting something her conscience told her not to.
We know Manchin and Sinema are enjoying the spotlight as spoilers but if it takes bridges to get them to do the right thing, whatever. Primary them with real Democrats when they run for reelection. Ostracize them when they've served their purpose.
Be daring.
Democrats are nice people, but we are battling for our democracy and we need to use everything we've got.
