It is very simple, the human race will have to be genetically re engineered pretty soon, the Y chromosome is shrinking and there are too many genetic defects,

so why not make humans hermaphrodite like snails; ‘male and female’ as originally intended in Genesis. Solves the sex discrimination problem and obliterates the distinction between hetero and homo sexuality.

Makes reproduction easier since whichever partner wants to can and the other can pursue some career.

I always felt things were unfair on women so it will be great to do something about it.

Addendum 1 Homo sapiens version 2

The proposal is female with male sex organs as well but mounted 6cm higher than at present, birth being just in front of existing pubic arch avoiding need for wide hips, so overall appearance will be intermediate.

A minimal beard (billy goat) is included because it offers some protection against dog attacks. Pubic hair is out, it just happened to be selected for along with the beard in the first version. Tiny stones like the ones for balance but containing iron oxide will give innate direction sensing. The eye is to be redesigned with blood vessels behind the retina and 5 primary colours.

Compared with existing males the genetic strength of fixing the Y chromosome problem makes up for having to carry female bits, and removing a lot of the junk DNA is a bonus compared with either existing gender. Compared with existing females easier birth and a simplified gait are clear advantages.

Hermaphrodite design means more altruistic behaviour since nobody is now a competitor of anyone else. The killings of the O.T. for example where males are killed and females or female children are left for example are totally pointless since everyone is a potential mate.

Addendum 2 The gay problem

I posted the serious thread: ‘killing for oil in Vietnam’ providing information few seem to be aware of, on the longest and one of the most destructive wars the US has been in. Failure to learn from Vietnam has lead to Iraq. But killing for oil in Vietnam has now slipped to page 3 and only 59 people have even bothered to look at it.

Morals and Ethics is dominated by the gay everything in what could be a forum dealing with some possibly more important issues. That’s the gay problem.

Are you saying that being gay is a genetic defect? If so, is there data available to support the claim?

One of the weekly news rags had an article several months back on how the Y chromosome has been deteriorating and if it continues then men will no longer exist in a few thousand years or so. Interesting read, but like 2 days later I read a refutation of the theory that made sense...of course, I do have a Y, so maybe I'm biased.

I guess I should have said 'chromosome problem', both partners in a male gay relationship have Y chromosomes, and that is the problem, ditto in a female relationship have X Chromosomes only.

Prof Bryan Sykes here at Oxford has spent decades on genetics so is fairly knowledgeable.

Humans have loads of genetic defects, you name it we have it. A gene for making vitamin C that doesn't make vitamin C, we have that in common with closely related apes. Other defects that lead to a huge rate of spontaneous abortions in the foetal stage, and some that survive.

Problem may be that although humans have never numbered below a few thousand as I understand it, accidents and having only offspring of one gender have lead to the human race having a fairly small gene pool. Noah's flood didn't help either.

From my research, Sykes claims that the Y-chromosome is intrinstically genetically unstable, and is both rapidly mutating and unable to repair genetic damage. However, it is not 'shrinking'. He believes that this property of the Y-chromosome will reduce male fertility by 99% in 125k years (assuming everything else remaining as it is).

Sort of off-topic - I saw a TV show about a few species of the whiptail lizard, which this did supposedly actually happen to.

Now it's an all-female species that reproduces through parthogenesis, though the females still go through mating rituals together (that's an example to use against the 'gays aren't natural' crowd).

The Y chromosome is actually more hardy than was once thought. While it has far, far fewer genes than does the X chromosome, it essentially has "copies" of itself written forwards and backwards. If one of the genes is damaged, the "back-up" replaces it.
