I didn't get that Michael thinks of himself as a prophet, W2L, but just that the Holy Spirit guides each believer's understanding.
How that could happen without the person knowing the Scriptures sufficiently to be led into the correct understanding escapes me, but that's probably a topic for another thread.
@davidcrosby @Albion @W2L - I really like discussing scripture obviously, I have issues about how it is applied. So when I come out and say ... sola scriptura is not necessary ... probably relates to the Sola part, there are many ways God speaks to us. But in focusing solely on scripture as a means to hear from God, the natural sense of compassion becomes lost. There needs to be balance.

I know what you mean, but that's not an excuse to throw out scripture. Its an excuse to throw out the assembly.
@W2L - And many people have done that and church populations have thinned out because of it... however, what I am saying is not to throw out Scripture ... just the interpretative lense, sola scriptura. The bible speaks of a number of ways to hear from God, the sola is unbiblical.
I guess that I don't see how taking God's word as one's guide--and the only guide that the whole church accepts as genuine revelation--causes anyone to lose balance or a sense of compassion.@davidcrosby @Albion @W2L - I really like discussing scripture obviously, I have issues about how it is applied.
