Who does the believing if it's us then how can you say God does the whole work of salvation?

One is regenerated in order to believe (1 John 5:1). Ongoing faith/believing is a description of a regenerated heart. A regenerated heart is active= it beleives. It is proof that God has raised a dead sinner to spiritual life. The believing I do is the result of being made spiritually alive.

Similalrly, God has given us all the gift of life (being born, living). It is only because he gave us the gift of temporal life that any of us live. Any on-going breath in our lungs is the result of God's gift to us. Every breath is His sovereign gift. Do we then ask, "Who does the breathing, God or us?" No, we don't. We're quite pleased that He has given us daily breath. One never stops to question whether or not He's doing the breathing for us.

James did John Calvin teach one needs to be regenerated to believe?
Who started this teaching (gospel). Who first interpreted the bible to say this?
how do you explain act 2:38 and many other places that says believe then you will recieve the Holy Spirit or believe then you will be saved?

God gave us breath but don’t you think we can choose not to breath if we wished?

Some apple trees don’t produce any fruit does that make it not an apple tree? Some apple trees produce bad fruit. The same with Christians even the Jews were elected by God but because they produced bad fruits they were cut off.

Here it speaks of a true faith that doesn't produce fruit is dead.
I think Sola Fide is saying dead faith or useless faith saves.

James is saying that a dead faith, one without works is no faith AT ALL.

Read the verse it's saying can faith save him. That would mean whether he has faith or not it's useless.
Faith without works is not no faith but useless faith or dead faith.
If faith alone saves then you can't call it useless or dead.
