Being new to digital photography (for that matter, any photography) this of course makes me somewhat of a novice but I have been able to come across two great programs, being Snapseed and Portrait Professional.
For those who have found Photoshop or Lightroom to be a bit imposing, Snapseed provides the DSLR user with many benefits, particularly for those who use RAW images as this program will enable you to undertake the obligatory sharpening adjustments and it comes with an all features open two week trial period. Even though I'm still a newbie, it does seem that Snapseed should be about the only piece of software that most people will need.
Portrait Professional does have a trial period but for around $40 this fabulous piece of software enables the photographer to produce some superb prints, though caution will always need to be applied as it can be easy to get a bit carried away by over adjusting facial imperfections.
