  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yeah, I guess that's what I'm getting at. If the end goal is to pass acceptable legislation that bans abortion, you will have to argue for it.

Do you think that argument, that it's rooted in selfishness, will convince the masses? Will it lead to the majority legalizing absolute bans? I don't think so.

Only a very small segment of the US population want the absolute positions legislated. Most want allowances and restrictions. You're in the minority, and that's okay.

I think most people want to at least allow for situations of a woman's health.
I believe abortion should only be used to save the life of the mother, and yes, a majority of abortions are incredibly selfish.

I would challenge this claim. Not everyone is equally moral. Some positions, such as Pro-Choice, to support killing the most vulnerable people on the planet, is abhorrent and the holocaust of our day.
Well said.

It should convince people who do not want to be selfish.

The pro-choice woman is talking about her body.

Does not matter what the Pro-Choice woman is talking about. The being inside her has its own DNA at conception. It is not the mother's body. It is the child's body. Different DNA = cannot be her.

To be clear a pro-choice woman is talking about what's happening in her womb.

Makes no difference. It is not her DNA so it is not her. It is a different LIFE within her.

Right, and both sides disagree. Amazing, perhaps, but true. The question is what do we do in a heterogeneous society where there are these kinds of disagreemens? When disagreements like this cannot be reconciled, you find a middle ground. Roe was that middle ground.
No. There is no middle ground. God is real. Humans are mortal and after that, there is more. Humans have a soul, a spirit. It's a life that continues on after the mortality ends. How will it feel to meet face to face your child whose life was ended?

I just don’t accept that as credible. It’s like saying a slave owners only sees his slaves as property and not human beings.

Makes no sense to me, personally.

Well said. It must be terrifying to face a living God!

You misunderstand how widespread the issue is, sir or madam. I am not talking about a thing like, "If you don't read your Bible every day you are not a Christian." I am talking about much bigger things such as the example I gave. A LOT of self-identified Christians do not believe Jesus was God and He was just a good teacher. That is a belief that keeps you from the kingdom.

I've seen this. I think its either those that were taken to church as children and don't attend as adults. Also, it's got to be bad teachers.

Or they are badly catechized and don’t know what their church actually teaches.

I have not voted in the poll. The reason is that I believe in Just War Theory. I think if a country invades another country, that country that was invaded has every right to defend itself. Naturally, people are going to die in a war. As such, a person fighting in a just war would not be considered a homicide.

It’s a new child in her womb. Period.
Just so long as you recognize it's her womb, I think you'll understand that a pro-choice woman is saying, the government should not tell a woman what she should do with her own body (when she is pregnant).

You are literally advocating for killing a baby in the womb. You realize that, right?

Actually, I'm not. I believe if a woman brings a child to term, she will eventually be glad she didn't get the abortion.
