• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

....Hi all, I have a question but let me briefly explain my situation first.
I am really starting to feel a bit anxious (and discouraged) about the outcome of my social security income application. See 2.5 years ago I filed for social security Disability Income (for my mental disabilities) and got denied twice and even went to a hearing and I was still denied. :sigh: :( I am in the process of an appeal for this case. However, in the mean time my lawyer, who has been working with me all this time on this case, has opened up a new case for Social Security Income (which is less in monthly income than Disability, which is fine with me too). Anyway, they lawyers said I stand a pretty good chance of winning the SSI case since I already went to court for the Disability case. They also said that I should hear back from them between June-Sept.
So here is what I am anxious about, as you all know that the government is cutting back MAJORLY on things like SSD and SSI and stuff (this is not just here in the US, they are cutting back globally too). This being said I am starting to worry if I will get denied after all of these years of fighting for this for my disabilities, I will be hopeless if I do get denied!
So here is my question for you all, is there ANYONE here who has gone through the appeal process and such for either social security income or disability and actually got approved RECENTLY? I am asking you all cause I just want to know that there will be hope for me to finally support myself and survive and NOT live off my best friend of 20+ years. THAT IS NOT fair to her or me! :(
Please PLEASE pray I get approved of this cause it will open SO MANY doors for me, two big doors is that mainly I can support myself (and not lean on my best friend for support ever again) and two I can MOVE OUT of this place.
Thank you all, God bless you all!:hug::hug::hug:

I'm praying for you but if (God forbid) you do get turned down, don't despair but keep on trying. I remember reading a post by one of the chaplains saying he got turned down several times for Disability (he has physical health problems) but he just kept trying and every time he got turned down he gathered more evidence to support his case for the next time.:pray::pray::pray::hug::hug::hug::hug:

I get SSI but was never denied through court. But I got it when it wasn't as hard to get, 20 years ago. They told me right off when I was applying that I couldn't get SSDI. After I applied I got the SSI in 3 months. I know they do it much differently now and people are often denied twice and then they get it. I am praying that you will get it asap and you will have the much needed relief you've been wanting. God bless you.

I'm going to level with you on this a little bit. I'm 26 now. I first applied on my own for Social Security when I was eighteen. I have Cerebral Palsy AS WELL AS bi-polar disorder and severe anxiety disorder. I'm legally blind and have mobility issues because of the CP, and have been hospitalized three times for MI. When I applied on my own, I was denied. Twice. From start to finish, that process took about two and a half years. I decided to try and reapply again, only the next time, I found a SS lawyer to help. The process wasn't overnight with the lawyer. I had to see doctors and go to a hearing and talk to doctors and the judge. I was told that because of my lack of work history (I'd only held summer jobs or part time jobs at that point--I was 21--because I'd been in school) I did not qualify for SSDI. However, I was told the ruling would take 1-3 months. It took 2 weeks. I was ruled disabled and awarded SSI ($721 a month). I got my first back check a week later. With back pay, they usually pay it in three installments, six months apart. My lawyer took their fee out of my very first back pay check for SSI, In total, including the removal of my attorney fees from the first check, I got about 5.5k in back pay. I can't stress enough how worth it it is to just hire a lawyer. You will have to get info from your doc as well as seeing one that the SS office tells you to, but the process was so much less stressful.
