  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So, winamp?

I remember watching an interview on FoxNews channel over the web concerning the CEO of a porn entertainment company who is now offering the ability to buy porn over the web that you can burn to DVD to watch in your DVD player.

But thats a no go for this family (since we are Linux based) it only works with Windows XP SP2....

Yes lets boycott Winamp for allowing people to find and provide whatever they want.

If you don't want porn then don't go looking for it. I use Winamp almost constantly and I haven't seen even the mention of any porn even though I know its there. Its just up to you to stay away from it.

Also you make this sound like its ground breaking news. Winamp has allowed access to porn almost since its creation. And yet somehow people manage to still use it happily and porn free if they so choose.

Considering I only use Winamp (2.95 at that) for playing music since it's a terrible video player, I don't see the point, not that I've ever seen the point in boycotting something if it doesn't directly affect me - in which case I wouldn't be putting myself in that sort of situation anyway.

Besides, by that logic we should boycott any cable provider that has the Playboy Channel or any adult-on-demand or pay-per-view programs in their catalog, or any browser that has the capability of viewing such material.

The fact is, the person that makes the decision to consider unseemly material is the user, not the content provider. It's not like they're kidnapping people, strapping them to a chair with their eyes taped open, and forcing them to watch these things. And moreso, Shoutcast (as far as I can remember) has little in the way of central administration from the Winamp team themselves, save certain channels that are common to pretty much any online content provider. It's third parties, even other users, that are responsible for Shoutcast-streamed content.

I guess you will need to turn off your internet. It gives you direct access to porn. Or you could just boycott it, I suppose. Not like it will do any good either way.

Shoutcast gives users the availibility to steam video. It's the responcibility of the user to what is being streamed. Shoutcast just provides the technology. It can be used for many different things, porn being one. But if you wish to blame someone, blame the users. Not the company. Or you could just uninstall it from your computer and not waste your time in pointless protest.

I use winamp all the time. Mainly for music or as a video player. Never bothered with their shoutcast tv thing though.

That is outrages how can Winamp be giving access to porn now I'm glad i never used before and wont ever start.

While we're at it, let's avoid the internet (lots of porn), magazines (Playboy), TV (Cinemax), and books (erotic novels)!

I just went and checked my WinAmp for this feature. The default setting is for adult content to be turned off. I don't see the problem.
Hmm... so the OP would have had to enable the adult content, and then they're outraged by it?
"That movie was so offensive! In fact, it was so horrible that I think I'll have to see it again just to understand how offensive it was!"

Maybe someone else in his household enabled it? (Trying to give the benefit of the doubt here...) I'd never used the feature before so the first time I clicked on it, it brought me to a configure page. The top setting - set to off - was for adult content. I had to click it on and save the settings to see what the content was. So unless someone else on his computer turned it on, yeah...
