  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So what would you think or do if your 3rd grader was "searched"?

Unacceptable!!!

This was really the best solution they had for a missing $5.00???

But here's what got me -
Christian County Schools spokeswoman Regan Huneycutt said the search violated the school district's policy. School employees can touch students only when the student poses a threat to another student or to themselves.

Wow! No touching?! What about helping a kid on with winter boots? Untying a string under a chin? Giving a side hug when little Jimmy does a good job? Taking a child's hand in yours to help teach cursive writing? Such a steril world!

Part of me thinks this is just weird. Five bucks? Such an ordeal for five bucks. No one could pry open a wallet and pull out another fiver? Another part of me wonders why it's such a horrid thing to be searched. I've been patted down myself at the airport.

So, I'm not sure what to think.

You are an adult. Sure I've been patted down and searched before at both the airport and concerts. However, I am an adult and the cause for concern was others safety, not $5. It was/is simply not equal.

At least when I was in school you could have your belongings search for any reason they wanted but you could not have your person searched. You could be asked to empty your pockets but if you refused then there was a different process to follow. I don't know if that has changed.

It would be clear to me at that point, that the childrens' best interest was not foremost at that school and my kids would be removed. Obviously these teachers and administrators didn't trust these children at all and that would be a huge problem for me as well. It's really sad that there is no middle ground anymore with some of these schools where they're told that no touching is acceptable. That we have to go to such extremes is really unfortunate. I'm really struggling with understanding how this school feels that they can't allow teachers to pat kids on the head, or even give a even when needed, but subjecting the kids to a humiliating search is considered acceptable and doesn't even warrant a call to the parents prior to being done?

OK then I guess I just don't get it:confused:. Sure, a pat-down for five dollars seems stupid to me, but immoral? I don't see how it is such a terrible thing to be searched. Then again, I think the "no touching at all" rule is ridiculous. The only thing that would bother me is if I had reason to believe my child's teacher is a pervert, in which case I'd think twice before even dropping them off at school.
