  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So ... what does God do?

In the old testament writings, there is a pattern of God allowing Israel and Israel and Judah to be placed in impossible situations, and then He is glorified when God brings about the victory ... usually because the enemy decided to insult God.

(Discussion topic) In light of the new testament writings, what does God do to be glorified presently?

He is patient, He is loving, He is Holy, He is compassionate, He provides for us, He encourages us, He forgives us, and He consoles us and calms our fears.

In the scriptures it says that God did works through people, and answered prayers so He is glorified.

Jesus prayed, may they (who believe later) be one as we so the whole world will know that you have sent me.

He does all those things you said, but what does God do, so that people praise His name?

Like in the new testament writings, what does God do in plain sight of people?

If the answer is nothing visible, when did God's personality change?

I don't think God's personality changed. I think God expected us to step up with the revelation of Jesus and his cross. God is glorified when those who take up their own crosses still follow.

He provides for us, he heals sometimes. He loves our neighbors.
feeds the poor, is a fresh glass of water through his word, clothes the needy, is an encouragement to the down trodden, visits those in prisons and hospitals, is a friend to those who serve him. Gives meaningful work to whom need it. Blesses and answers our Prayers. Is that enough?

Thank you. the question came to me because God seems to be blasphemed among the heathen because of the church and its actions leading up to this age.

Seemed a poignant discussion to at least strike up.

God bless.

Being glorified by His fanclub, the church, but not much further outside seems a little lacking compared to other ages. However, it is nice that He is glorified at all.

if we grasp the value of who God is, we will automatically glorify Him. If we don’t glorify Him, it is because we do not yet perceive His true value. So, God calls on us to glorify Him because, for our good, He wants us to perceive His value. He wants us to understand that He is the ground, the source of all that is truly good, pleasing, joyous, beneficial, blessed.

God provides us with what we really want:

You want to have the opportunity while on earth to really get to know God one on one: have Him as a friend, have Him listen to you, have Him help you, have Him spend time with you, have Him teach you, have Him mentor you and even have Him correct you. You want to have the same situation as the twelve apostles had with Christ. Well, that is what you are to have, every mature Christians has Christ/God dwelling within them, Christ works through hopefully millions of Christians to be Christ to millions of nonbelievers, so they can reach the point of having Christ live in and through them to be Christ to others. It is our (the Christian’s) privilege and honor to allow Christ to live through them mentoring others to the point of become a home for Christ to live through them.

It is a sign of the end times that He is less glorified now by some and the Apostasy happening now. With faith see He is worthy of our praise. What keeps you on the fence @Michael Collum ?

you seem to understand but are not a doer? You don’t believe Him? You seem gently seeking sometimes, God has proved Himself in words to us and actively works to make us more like Him. You are unique, He loves you, but you stand outside. Are you knocking on you head and not the door. Ha. I bet you can defend the faith already. But humble when wrong and raging when right.

I'm not on the fence.

I'm creating discussion on an important topic.

When his name is blasphemed because of the actions (or inaction) of the church, perhaps something along the lines of correcting that perception might be in order was something I had in mind. Along the lines of 1 Peter 3:16.

It might even turn things around.

I can do good individually, Glorify God individually, but the corporate blessings when the church acts like it should are what are missing today.

He is glorified through his Son who is bringing many sons to glory in the whole economy of salvation.

God does indeed do visible things.
Every day He creates thru Nature, and through people.
Baby animals are born/hatched, people are created as children first, and then they grow into adults. And through them God does wonderful things as well.
God doesn't sleep like we do, He is always planning and creating, answering our questions, forgiving our sins, and leading us in the way we should go.
And through all of that, He is ensuring the possibility of a life that is beyond our comprehension for it's depth, inspiration, compassion, blessing, it's fascinating unfolding as we live, and exceeding love beyond all measure.
We have opportunities beyond our understanding in this life, thanks to God.
And what good we achieve, is in the whole all because of Him;
His creation,
His vision,
and His grace.

If I am understanding the question correctly, I think the main point of those stories is to encourage the Jews in exile that, though God may seem to have hidden his countenance on account of their sins, if they returned and followed the right path good would eventually come, and this is illustrated in picture of God being glorified.

We must remember that what we consider idolatry was for many of those nations a symbol of their nation's values. The deity figurine represented what the people valued, whether it was fertility, harvest, winning war, etc. The God of the Israelites presented an invisible symbol of their nation's pride and values, and falling away from those values is illustrated in falling away from the God that represented those values.
