Voted demonic. Of course there are mistaken events and staged ones (such as for TV). Anyway, saw this thread so decided to regurgitate (or slime heh) a recent post on this type of topic.

No such thing as these ghosts.
I've encountered them, I've encountered interesting things without question, but these here are simply from the demonic. As the passages say, they are not human, they are from deception, and we are to have no business with them or those that call on upon them.
As with encountering anything:
1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Some speak, some don't. If they speak, often they may twist scripture, just like Satan tried to do to Jesus when taken to high places for temptations. That's where you get things like Mormonism, or Heavens Gate and such. But to not speak brings them benefit too, gets people to openly seek out from their confusion, leading to those spirits that tend to lead by their lies, such as to impersonate a dead loved one then give advice/instruction on what to do or believe. But don't the demons know the people of this world? They keep tabs, they study us and look for weaknesses to exploit.
