So...what did I miss???

I was sans computer...well completely sans POWER...for 72 hours after the "tropical storm" hit Cincinnati. We had sustained winds of up to 74 miles an hour and the highest gust was calculated at 95 mph. (category 1 hurricane force winds)

So over 900,000 customers were without power since about 1-2 Sunday afternoon. That's about 1.5 million people.

But Mike and I stuck it out...he actually got to go in and have things like a hot breakfast and lunch AND hot 'n cold running soda and the other little luxuries like internet access and toilets that you didn't have to take a flashlight into. *G*

Anyway, since I guess I'm done camping (FOR NOW...PLEASE DON'T LET IT GO BACK OFF!!!) How is everyone?

We had that nice "little" Pacific Northwest system move through here so we couldn't get the wheat off for a few days, and it moved east and met a nice little former hurricane and the two became one, right in your neck of the world. I guess it was a stormy marriage.

That should be about the last of those until blizzard time, but you never know.

Not much happened, financial institutions as we knew them ceased to exist. The Colts beat the Vikings (sorry about Cinncinnati, maybe next year). And there was a train wreck in California it is believed due to the engineer missing a stop light because he was texting on his cell phone.

That's what comes to mind.

Thanks for the prayers. I'm still not feeling too well, but I am to go off that med immediately. I had 11 of the adverse effects of this drug in the last 3 days. fun, fun. I should be ok in a few days.

Kae!!!!! It's good to know you're safe, but sorry you were in harm's way from a gulf storm. Nasty bugger, wasn't it?

Why so many people discounted Ike is beyond me. We could see for almost a week that it almost covered the ENTIRE Gulf Coast and the satellite images alone frightened me.

We were a bit too far west to be heavily impacted, which made us a haven for the evacuees, some of whom may be coming back for good now that they have no home to return to. Our housing market will benefit from the injection of new residents, but none of us are rejoicing in the circumstances.

Now, if we can all survive the presidential election and financial market turmoil, maybe life can get back to some semblance of normalcy, whatever that is.

That's pretty much what everyone is griping about. That Duke (energy company) "blew off" Ike (no pun intended. Well, maybe intended a bit...) and here we all were left high and (thankfully) dry. Lambie got all the rain, we just got the wind. Which, if I'm honest, I'm happy about. (That I got the wind, not that Lambie got the rain.) We only lost a part of the siding on the front of the house. Found part of the missing part so we can snap that back into place. Unfortunately, we're going to have to find something that matches to put in the small part we couldn't find.

As of right now, my parents *still* don't have power. It's been 6 days and my Mom is just beyond frustrated. Dad's laid back and easy going so he's flustered by it all but, he's like me...takes it in stride.
